How are you feeling this week? Feeling good this week. The weather has warmed up and has been sunny and nice which majorly improves my mood.
Rants/Raves/Confessions? Rave for this week: I had a doc appointment and showed him my numbers. He said everything was looking perfect. That gave me such reassurance because last week I had some numbers that were a little high and I was super stressed about them, but he wasn't concerned at all.
Food/Recipe ideas? Nothing exciting this week, same old same old.
GTKY: If you could splurge on something for this pregnancy/baby what would it be? I find myself wanting to splurge on adorable clothes a lot.
How are you feeling this week? Feeling ok. Exhausted in general, but that's expected with my current condition and a toddler and work and life!
Rants/Raves/Confessions? Doctor said my numbers were good last week, though my overnights have continured to rise. So, not feeling so great about that. Also, I totally indulged in a Shamrock Shake today! my numbers were higher, but still under the limit so I don't feel too guilty.
Food/Recipe ideas? Nothing monumental. Although I did recently discover the Atkins Strawberry Shakes that are delish! And the protein bars are called Power Crunch and they are more like a wafer cookie than the typical (overly dense) protein bars. They are great!
GTKY: If you could splurge on something for this pregnancy/baby what would it be? If I could splurge it would definitely be on a new car! But that's not really a solid option at this point. So our current cars will have to suffice.
How are you feeling this week? Alright, still trying to get used to the limited food choices.. Just met with my dietitian tonight and she says won't need to meet again unless I have issues. She was super impressed with my numbers, saying I averaged to about a 100 for my meals for blood sugar (1 hour checks). She had told me my 1st appointment my blood sugar needed to be under 120 after eating each of my meals and I found on the government's website for GD it said the 1 hour should be under 140. So I asked her why they were so strict, she said they were actually going to be changing theirs to 130, but different physicians had different standards. It also snowed a bunch here the other day and that was depressing but next week is supposed to be in the 50's!! woot woot!
Rants/Raves/Confessions? I really really want a shamrock shake!!! Since I can't eat my feelings, I've been buying baby things. My mom keeps yelling at me to stop. She thinks I'm going to have too much stuff for the baby. I really don't feel like I have much at all....
Food/Recipe ideas? I just bought 2 cookbooks from goodwill for diabetic recipes since I was having a tough time online. I had a mini pizza last week that was awesome and it didn't spike my blood sugar.
GTKY: If you could splurge on something for this pregnancy/baby what would it be? adding a room onto the house lol. not enough space here!
Question for you guys: have you guys ever eaten a meal that you've had before but gotten a totally higher number? I had an english muffin with PB this morning and had a 125. I ate the same breakfast 2 weeks ago and and had an 85. Just trying to figure it out.
@AnastasiaBeaverhausen09 I had this happen a couple of days ago.. my fasting was 84 and then I ate breakfast 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with a little butter (like I have eaten several times before) and somehow ended up with a 136. I couldn't figure that one out.. my lunch was then fine at 111. (I have to test 1 hour after starting to eat). I did see this past weekend that my blood sugar was highly affected by messing up my sleep schedule, which in turn messed up my eating schedule.
@Sienna516 I did eat a lot later than normal this morning. Maybe that's it. My sleep was also crappy last night, but that's pretty par for the course these days!
@AnastasiaBeaverhausen09@Sienna516 Yes sleep can definitely effect it, as can changing the time you eat. Also, what you ate the day/night before. But truly, the biggest factor is the placenta/baby getting bigger. Sometimes meals that have worked so many times before will suddenly not work anymore. It can be frustrating, and I find it happens most frequently for me near the end of the pregnancy with the morning meal for whatever reason. At the end I was pretty much eating nearly all protein for breakfast.
How are you feeling this week? This is my first week monitoring, so I'm annoyed.
Rants/Raves/Confessions? See above...just bugged that I have to keep testing! Every blood draw has come back within normal range, so I'm sticking it out for the week. Then I'll see what my doctor has to say.
Food/Recipe ideas? I've been on a tuna kick recently! Tuna melts & tuna with Wheat Thins.
GTKY: If you could splurge on something for this pregnancy/baby what would it be? I'm with Sienna with an addition to the house! Or a bigger house altogether
How are you feeling this week? This is my first week monitoring, and I'm feeling good. Just over the "I can do this, this isn't so bad!" stage and wanting a cheeseburger.
Rants/Raves/Confessions? I had a few issues with getting enough blood on the strip so I wasted a ton of strips. I massaged and massaged my finger before, but it wasn't till I starting holding them pointed downward that I'd get enough to test (duh!). I'm anxious to see how much my strips will cost to refill, even with insurance. Also saw my doctor for the first time since receiving my diagnosis and she was happy with my numbers. That was so good to hear. Then, when she went to listen for a heartbeat, the baby was moving around SO MUCH. Dr. put her hand on my belly and felt around and said "wow, she will be a BIG girl." I don't know if she really feels big or if dr is going with the GD babies are big thing. Either way, that scared the crap out of me.
Food/Recipe ideas? For snacks, I've been doing fruit with cottage cheese, cheese cubes with triscuits, almonds, string cheese, etc. I plan to put some chicken breasts in the crockpot with low sodium broth and make shredded chicken for salads this week. I am totally boring. I've started a Pinterest board with ideas though, so I'll get some more ingredients this weekend and venture out. For my evening snack, I've been having a Power Crunch bar or 1/2 cup of Bluebell ice cream and my fasting numbers are awesome!
GTKY: If you could splurge on something for this pregnancy/baby what would it be? Definitely a bigger vehicle. Not in the cards for a few months, though..

OMG!! this happened to me @AnastasiaBeaverhausen09! I don't get it...i have had the same breakfast 3 days in a row and on the 3rd day my sugar level was wayyy higher than the cut off (7). I have jot it down to ask my Dr at my next appt.
@RSaini I can go ahead and tell you what my doctor told me. He shrugged his shoulders and said there are so many factors that go into your numbers (sleep, stress, just a random high number), and told me not to worry about it. I'll be interested to hear what your doctor says.
I agree with PP. So many factors. My doctor said even the type of hand soap you use could affect your numbers. I stopped worrying about it unless my number was way out there.
Thank you ladies @AnastasiaBeaverhausen09@southerngirlgetsfit. I am trying to stay calm about it. What i thought was funny is when I eat really healthy and whole grain everything carb my levels are close to the cut off..but if i have 2 slices of pizza and 1/4 can of coke my levels are way below the cut off. What strange crap is this??? lol i cant figure it out...my appt with my endocrinologist is on Wednesday and i'm hoping she lets me stay off insulin
Just had my dietician meeting this morning. Looks like my hardest challenge will be fitting so many carbs in.. I typically eat a light protein dinner and never snack because of heartburn. I'm just stressed putting so much thought into eating and timing.. Hopefully I'll get used to it quickly!
