Neck Rash

LOs neck is VERY bright red underneath two folds I just discovered. Poor thing. Lord knows how long its been there. I noticed it when he fell asleep on my lap in the rocking chair and he tilted his head a certain way. I bathe him daily precisely because of how many skin folds he has my chubby baby. Under his neck daily my DW puts her hand with soap and gets what I imagine is sweat, milk etc. It very gross.

Google is of no help as I am now thinking it could be anything. With all the moisture...maybe a yeast infection. For that I know he needs antibiotic.

I recently bought him new pjs but washed them all before putting them on him.

Heat rash-Our weather lately is extremely weird. I have the AC on during the day because its been up 90  degrees but in the am starting around 5 am it gets extremely cold(for ppl from here lol) where the house gets to 69 degrees and it feels like December again. So theres been a few nights where he probably roasted in his sack thinking it was going to be a cold night but it wasn't at all.

I'm not asking for what you think my baby has lol. For those with rash experience. How did you treat it or what would you suggest trying before taking him to the pediatrician. His appt isn't until the 4th of April so if treating it after a couple of days doesn't get better I'll take him in. It looks painful! Any advice appreciated.

Re: Neck Rash

  • My baby had one, dr told us to put canesten on it, cleared up right away, now we make sure to dry it very well and inspect daily.

  • DD has this problem too, and it started peeling once and I freaked out.  but I cleaned it well, not hurting her when I was touching it and  what I do is put diaper rash cream under her neck folds. She hates it but I haven't had a problem since. Make sure to thoroughly clean it first and let it dry out before you put it. It should be replaced every day.

If if its just bright red it might just be irritated. Either way bring it up to your pedi and see if it is a yeast infection! I would imagine it's so uncomfortable for them .
  • My kid had this exact problem, only she had it on her neck, under her armpits and the folds of her elbows. She also has crazy dry and sensitive skin on her trunk. I have been slathering her with coconut oil morning and night and the neck stuff cleared up in two days. I like it because it's natural so we aren't introducing more chemicals to baby girl's sensitive skin.
  • Henry's neck folds get irritated sometimes, I wipe them out daily with a cloth and plain water and tuck a small towel in them so they dry properly. It seems to do the trick.
  • We have this issue, I think amped up by the teething drooling. I try to put bibs on more often as well as change her clothes often and use dry wash clothes to dry her neck and chest.
We use Vaseline for her eczema so we just use that.
  • I've kept LO's neck dry by always using a bib and just check it out when I feed her, but I just found one of these rashes behind her ear! So there's another place you might want to check.

I asked my friend who is a dermatologist about one of DD's rashes. She had me use a little but of cortisone cream mixed with aquaphor. Rash cleared up right away. Always check with your dr, but this has worked well for us so far.
  • Our doctor told us to put a little Vaseline in their rolls. She said it maintains "functional dryness", which is just a fancy way to say it's a skin protectant. We try to wipe out all their neck rolls regularly and their doc wasn't concerned about the redness.
  • DD doesn't have neck folds but gets a red rash in the skin folds she has elsewhere. I use grovia Itty bitty magic stick in hers as a skin protectant and just try to keep them as clean and dry as possible. I like the ease of the stick though and started using one on DS as well (they each have their own with names marked on them).
  • Thank you ladies! I ended up putting a skin protectant (I chose Aquaphor) after cleaning and drying as you suggested and it clear almost fully over night! I need to pay attention to check all folds from now on and make sure the stay dry! Lol
