Nipple thrush?

okay so I'm a total hypochondriac so I may be worried about nothing but if my nipples are white right after nursing and then a purple/bruised color the rest of the time, Is that a sign? They also have a burning sensation but I thought that might be from LO getting a little lazy with her latch...

Re: Nipple thrush?

  • That's how I felt, a burning sensation during and after. The latch was agony. My nipples were red and shiny. I got cream for me and oral liquid for baby's mouth to break the cycle, and used nipple shields to allow me to continue feeding without pain while they healed a bit. I suffered for a while then once I started treatment it was better in about 2 days. Go see your doctor and hang in there! It goes away!

  • What you are describing sounds kind of like a vasospasm to me.  I think it is relatively benign, but caused by a bad latch.
  • Ooooh I had that! I have Reynauds of the nipple! I also have it in hands and feet. Ask your doctor though to be sure.
  • I agree with PP. I have vasospasm really bad in one side bc LO has a hard time latching on that side. It is exactly as you describe. Try to fix your baby's latch and you can use heat on your nipple after.
  • Thanks ladies! If I go in for this would I go to my ob or a regular doctor?
  • I would recommend a lactation specialist if you have access to one. If not I would say OB. It's really about fixing your latch and that's why a LC would be best! Good luck. Vasospasm is so painful!
