Pushing... starting labor/contractions?

Every time I go to the bathroom I feel like I am pushing the baby farther out... I am scheduled for a csection a week from today, so I do not want to help things to move along. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? Or push while going to the bathroom and end up starting contractions/labor etc? Do you know if this can happen, or is it in my mind?

  • I've never heard of that happening. Maybe your baby is very low? I feel a lot of weird sensations from having a baby that has dropped. Mostly it feels like the baby is ready to drop out of me, but I know it won't be that easy. ;)
    It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

  • There's several barriers in the way right now, and until those are gone you're not going to accidentally push the baby out :) pushing during labor uses a lot of the same muscles as you use when pooping, so you're probably just feeling pressure in those same areas.

  • I don't think it's going to do anything. Baby might be low enough to be pressing against your colon, which is why you might feel that you're "pushing" him/her out when you poop, but I seriously doubt it's anything more than that. You're fine, poop away!

  • I am seriously afraid to push hard but because of hemorrhoids, not labor. If you need to push that hard, you need a lot more fiber in your diet. I started eating at least one Fiber One bar per day and I cook a lot of spinach when I'm feeling backed up. That always gets things going.

What she said ^^^ You shouldn't have to strain on the toilet, and if you do you should drink more water, eat more fiber, and maybe try taking colase.
  • Thanks for all of the advice! Its not the strain of going it's more of the muscles used... I feel the same when passing gas. I am thinking it's all in my head. Luckily I've been regular, esp. over the last few weeks :)
