Re: From Breast to Bottle

  • I am lucky in that both of my kids took to the bottle with no problems.  Have you talked to your pediatrician or a lactation consultant?  I don't have any advice other than to try different types of bottles/nipples.

  • I find getting someone else to give my LO a bottle rather than me makes a big difference.  We did a few weeks of every other night at home my husband gave him a bottle while I left the room.  It didn't take long until he started taking it and now we have no problems.  I can even give him one if I need to now.  Good luck!

  • First, relax and know it can be done! Lol you will be able to do it. And you don't have to spend tons of money on expensive bottles that promise baby will like it. How I got my daughter to take the bottle was I offered it to her every single day once a day for a week. At around noon time. The mornings she is too hungry and evening time babies are usually winding down to sleep and want the comfort and body heat of mom and breast. I recommend you hold him while giving him the bottle as you walk him around. This will bring his guard down, and he is still getting the comfort he normally gets while at the breast. If he starts to chew it, let him for a bit, and if you can dip the nipple in breast milk before you offer it to him. Squeeze a little at a time but not to hard or to much, he will understand this is the same stuff but in a different form. If he starts to fight it but know he is hungry put him down for a couple seconds, try again, but if by third time still not taking it go ahead and call it quits for the day, you don't want to upset to the point he will hate the thing for good. But trust me it'll take some patience he loves mommy and wants the gold strait from you lol. This usually works better with younger babies as they can still accommodate but don't give up! start now and you'll eventually see results. My baby girl had in it about a week. Not saying that's how long it will take might take more might take less but give it a try. Good luck.
  • We are working on this too and also introducing formula. It was really hard but with practice LO is getting better.  I have been doing both in a feeding and gradually increasing the amount in the bottle and it is starting to work.  At first I would give her one ounce in the bottle then give her the boob.  Then two ounces and boob.  Now we are up to three ounces (but sometimes she stops at two).  I am hoping she will just eventually take the whole feeding via the bottle in the next week or two.  It is a pretty slow process and we were stuck on two ounces for a long time, but it is sorta working for us right now.
