October 2016 Moms

2nd time moms (3rd, 4th ect)

I'm 6 1/2 weeks (DD is 4 1/2) and I am having some serious round ligament pain. Every time I stand up it's like someone playing tug of war with my uterus. From what I read this is usually more common in the 2nd tri of 2nd/3rd timers. Anyone else experiencing this??

yeah I know.....could have posted in the symptom thread but didn't want it to get burried.

  • I haven't yet but I definitely remember it around 12-14 weeks with my second. Hope it goes away quickly.

  • I'm 6w2d and this is my fourth pregnancy (two boys, one loss at 10 weeks) and I am definitely getting the round ligament pain already.

I've noticed it occurs a lot when I change positions abruptly or when I'm running down the stairs (both of which happen really frequently with a 2 and 4 year old running around!)

  • Yes! This is my second and I noticed RLP almost immediately after getting my BFP. I was shocked and did a lot of googling, since it didn't start until well into the second tri with my first kiddo. Seems to start earlier for many ladies after popping out at least one baby. My daughter was also born a year ago this month and I think RLP might show up sooner if your last pregnancy was recent-ish.

  • I'm getting it too this time at 5w. Just when I sneeze or cough. Luckily DS1 is 5 and I don't carry him around much any more

I'm 6w 3d with my 3rd and I have been getting RLP since last week.  I think with my last one I didn't get it until late in second trimester.

  • Oh and when I sneeze too!

Ok whew!  I'm probably not dying then. Thanks ladies!

  • Yep. I remember it being worse with my last pregnancy than this one so far. But we'll see what happens.

  • For me it's turning over in bed.

  • Yes! It's worse this time, this will be baby #3. It's usually worst when suddenly  moving or changing the direction that I'm moving in. I notice it gets significantly  more noticeable as the dynamic wears on too. I think my tolerance  to ignore or block it out wears down.
  • Yes! This is my second pregnancy and I am not even 6 weeks yet. I was googling it yesterday because I didn't think it could start this early. I nearly doubled over after a sneeze.

This! This is my second and I've by been randomly feeling sharp pains, especially when I'm rolling over in bed. It's subsided a bit this week though! I didn't know if it was RLP which I didn't have much of with my first, or my scar from my c-section just stretching, but it's not really in that area when I'm moving so my guess is also RLP. Which like you I read doesn't usually happen this early.

  • Yup, I felt major pulling when I stretched and my c-section scar is super uncomfortable.

  • I'm having this too!  It started really early, like 5 weeks.  This is my 6th pregnancy and it usually happens when I stand up suddenly.  Is anyone else having a hard time concealing their pregnancy yet?  I'm not ready to share since our first u/s is still a week away, but I'm having to pick out my clothes carefully.
  • This is my third and I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm not as far along as most of you on this board.
  • I definitely had issues with that midway through my second pregnancy. I hope it doesn't start super early this pregnancy. knock on wood.

Yes! This will be my 3rd baby and I am already feeling the stretching. I feel it after a long day of walking and being on my feet. I also feel it toward the end of my walking for exercise routine.  But worse than that is the back pain from my super huge tata's!  I feel like I have two very painful water balloons strapped to my chest!

  • Yes, definitely! This is my 4th.  It has gotten worse with each pregnancy. In fact it was my first symptom this time. I read others comments about sneezes & I totally agree.  To avoid extreme pain, I have to let the sneezes go & not try to hold them back.

  • Yes-- RLP is kicking my ass. Well, generally this pregnancy is kicking my ass. Third time is a charm?

  • Turning over in bed for me too
  • Yep!  As soon as I felt it I thought...oh how I didn't miss that pain.  It get it really bad from coughing fits or lots of sneezing.  I hunch over when I sneeze or cough to help prevent that shooting pain.

  • I'm on my third and my groin is doing weird stuff already at 8 weeks. Ugh.
  • I'm on my second, and I'm already uncomfortable in regular pants at 8+5.  I know it's definitely weird stuff going on in the ute area, because the pants I have on today are usually super loose at my current weight--but today they fit fine.

Can we use this thread to ask other questions related to 2nd and 3rd time moms??  I'm wondering how everyone feels about taking a toddler with you to your OB check ups.  I haven't done it yet, but I know some people do.  I work part time, so I have to decide between taking him with me when I'm off, or taking leave when I'm supposed to be working.  I would rather not use that much leave, but I'm worried about my 1 year old being a little monster while I'm being checked out.  Have you done this already?  If so, did you get the stink eye from the nurses and doctors the whole time?
  • I'm on baby number four. When I was pregnant with my third I took my second with me to the doctor a couple of times. I'm in the same boat as you, I work part time so I didn't want to be taking leave when I needed to be at work. I took him to all of the random appointments (16 weeks, 24 weeks, 32 and 34) When I had my a/s, glucose and when they started checking my cervix, I arranged for a babysitter. But that was more for my convenience than anything else. I don't think my doctors office would have cared.
  • My second I got those pains almost instantly and unfortunately  they lasted the entire pregnancy, bending, turning, stretching, it was all uncomfortable. Starting to do the same with this one too -_-
I hope it eases up for you though!

I had to take my 14 month old with me to one visit. I had gone to my annual without him and my pap had to be repeated. I couldn't find someone for him so he had to go. It was super quick, but he had a major meltdown. It was awful. My midwife was totally cool about (but at the same time, it was her office's screw up that caused me to have to come back).

He'll be going to most of my pregnancy appointments, but DH will usually be there too.

  • I felt it early on with this one but can't remember how often I felt it with my other two, since they're 9 and (almost)12. It definitely gets me when turning in bed as well!
