Weekly Check In 3/4

Happy March Ladies!

How far along are you?

How are you feeling?

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?)

Rants/Raves/Questions:

GTKY: While pregnancy and motherhood are a big part of what define us right now, we got to take some extra time to get here as geriatric mama's (I say with affection) ;)
What defines you outside of motherhood? In yoga we call the path of our life our dharma (different them karma) and since we took some extra time to unfold our path before having children, what exquisite lessons did we get to learn about ourself before becoming a parent?

  • @Wyattnash00 I was planning to get a belly support band of some kind soon for working out. I can still run, but my days are numbered without some belly support.

@bernierae I love the idea of reinventing yourself later in life, too. Someday I plan to try to transition from graphic design to fine art.

  • @lillebowski23 may I ask what type of TP you use? I also started a colace regimen, even though I'm not constipated, just to prevent that possibility from making it worse. It was bleeding (that was 10 seconds of total PANIC) when I first discovered it but now that's stopped entirely, so I'm happy about that.

also I love the Blue Hills!!! DH and I hike the skyline trail a whole bunch, and we use Ponkapoag Pond loop as training for backpacking - just load up the pack with weight and walk that loop as many times as we need to reach the mileage we think we'll do. I like it for snowshoeing too, but alas none of that this year...

  • @redheadbride15 I use Cottonelle Ultra. I also try to make sure I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to get enough fiber. I find that stress exacerbates my issue.

I've only recently started hiking here but plan to bring the LO as soon as I can. Hoping that we'll have some bice weather in the fall, by then she should be big enough to fit in the Osprey pack I got for this purpose! :)

  • How far along are you? 13 weeks

How are you feeling? Pretty good, still napping almost everyday and I had a lot of cramping this past week and I feel much bigger in my belly, hopefully that means baby is growing!

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) Still waiting for 1st tri screening results to come back before I can do NIPT (we will have to pay $800 to do it but california pays for the NIPT if you get any sort of positive on the 1st tri screening, so I figure it's best to wait and see if california will pay.)

Rants/Raves/Questions: We are going to tell my mom today about the pregnancy and she has been obsessed with us having a child since I was 30 or so (who am I kidding, she has been obsessed since I was 20!) I'm hoping we can at least surprise her, we have an elaborate plan that involves donuts.

GTKY: I loved reading everyones stories and journeys! You guys are some amazing women and I am so happy that I get to be a part of your journey.

Like a lot of you my top priority in my early 20's and 30's was travel and independence! I told my DH when I meet him that I wouldn't take a 10 hour plane ride unless we stayed at that location for at least 3 weeks. He totally laughed at me at the time, but since we have been together we have found ways to take 3,4,5 and even 6 week vacations. Our last big journey is when we went to india together to do our yoga teacher training. It was a big turning point in our relationship and we have really started to walk a more similar cohesive path since then.

I knew around age 25 that I was being called into the field of being a healer. I had a pivotal encounter while I was living in portugal teaching english. One of my students was a homeopathic doctor and we spent many hours talking about alternative healing. So I came back to the states and went through 5 years of acupuncture school and countless other trainings in a lot of different types of healing work. I've had a practice since 2009 and I have worked with some of my clients for a lot of years now, which is pretty cool.

I think the statement that best sums up my dharma is that I am always looking for the next level of mastery in my life. I was very surprised to find out that one of the most important things that needs to be a part of my life is a daily spiritual practice, or in yoga we call it a sadhana. For me that looks like meditation and yoga, and I was lucky to find a teacher who was able to help me learn how to make it a part of my daily life. I know it will be a struggle once LO arrives that I won't have the same sort of space and quiet to do my meditation like I do pre-LO. My work is to stay always in the light, working to keep the love in my heart so that I might uplift all those I come in contact with.

How far along are you? 19 weeks 5 days

How are you feeling? Outside of a little heartburn pretty good :)

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) Feeling lots of movement, my son who is 5 felt some the other day and was so excited he kept poking my tummy trying to get the baby to move summer more.  We find out if it's a boy or a girl tomorrow. I feel like it's a girl because this pregnancy has been more similar to being pregnamnt with my daughter than my son.  I am  on the fence re preference certainly toddler hood seems easier with my daughter than son, but I understand adolescence will make up for it.  A bit would be nice too as it will  leave my daughter while the middle child with the distinction of being the only girl.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
Rave... We replaced our old rusty car with a new three kid friendly vehicle last week
Rant.. So tired my poor daughter has gone from strep to gastro to an ear infection that caused her ear drum to burst  last weak.  She is on antibiotics but still struggling at night and only wants Mama, dh is willing you help but she'll have none of it.  I feel like it's been a month since I've slept well... Once I am awake I am awake for a while as pregnancy insomnia kicks in. Oh well I guess I am on training for having a baby in the house.

GTKY: While pregnancy and motherhood are a big part of what define us right now, we got to take some extra time to get here as geriatric mama's (I say with affection)
What defines you outside of motherhood? In yoga we call the path of our life our dharma (different them karma) and since we took some extra time to unfold our path before having children, what exquisite lessons did we get to learn about ourself before becoming a parent?
What defines you... The ability to captain my own ship ( figuratively).
Lessons:  other people's behavior speaks of them not of me. It took me a long time and a lot of heart ache in my twenties to really grasp that you can't fix or change other people, and very few precieved slights or hurts at the hands of others are personal.
But for the grace of God go I- I am not particularly religious but have come to realize that what I know to be right is only what I know to be right for me, and that had life taken me down another path I might have very different views and make very different choices.
Finally there are few things in life that can't be made at least a little better my a hot bath, a long walk, some time outside our the right company (human or canine)

  • @mamafesto - So sorry for your loss. That's wonderful that have those videos and the memory of recording them.  <3
  • I will be ten weeks tomorrow! Have first ultra sound on 14th. My sickness is out of control again, even with dr RX. It's debilitating. My aversion to water is gone though but I can't eat hardly anything. Some fruit is about it and spaghetti noodles. I vomit up to 3 times day. Spent the weekend sleeping. Can't enjoy pregnancy because of sickness. So sick.

  • Hey everyone, I start my 2nd trimester tomorrow @Sporty1216 - we nearly have the same due date...
today I had a scare, the lab wanted to retest my blood as one strain of my hemoglobin was high, which may lead to me having some form of thalesmia, may be I just panicking but any of you guys have any info on this which may be of any help. The Internet has some scary stuff which I opted not to read...how serious is this and is it harmful for the baby...just want to be out of this nervous phase...
  • @krupali78 it's hard for me to know for sure without the details of your lab report, but the most likely thing is that you may be a carrier for thalassemia (also called thalassemia trait). Just being a carrier is generally harmless though if they confirm it then they may recommend you take an iron supplement to prevent anemia. They may also recommend that your husband be tested. If both parents are carriers then there is a chance that your child could have the full disease (thalassemia major). The good news is that the chance of BOTH you and your husband being carriers is very small, and even if you are both carriers then the risk of having an affected child is not 100%. It's smart not to read the stuff on the internet because it always shows the worst case scenarios! Good luck!

  • @krupali78 -- I'm sorry for the scare! I don't have any experience with that issue, but maybe someone else here will! Hopefully your doctors can get back to you with further results soon too!

when is your due date? I'm due 9/12, but will likely have a repeat c-section on 9/7 (unless baby surprises us and decides to come early!)

    take care.

  • @redheadbride15 - thanks for the reassurance, my results come tomorrow, I will update the group...praying it's nothing
@Sporty1216, according to my u/s it's 12 Sep, according to my ivf specialist it's 14th, my doctor says she will decide on a c-section only closer to my due date...even if it's a normal delivery, an epidural is now allowed and used in India by doctors, which is kind of a relief... Can't wait to get this bloodwork result out of the way...
fingers crossed, good luck and take care

  • @lillebowski23 I love your dogs! They are beautiful! We had a bullmastiff and she loved people more than anything. She was also suuuuper lazy. I'm curious about the temperament of your mastiffs?

  • How far along are you?  32w5d

How are you feeling? Great until this morning, woke up at 2am and finally feel sleep around 5am before having to wake up at 6am. Had menstrual like cramps during those hours for a bit that finally went away. No bueno.

Any baby news (tests results/scans/upcoming appointments?) 3D/4D appt was AMAZING! The technology now, even from 3 years ago when we did it with DS, is unbelievable. I cant imagine 10 years from now.

Rants/Raves/Questions: I need sleep and to not feel nauseous!!!!

GTKY:  I'm glad I waited to get married and was able to travel a ton and really experience life before a husband and child. I'm a lot more confident and secure in my late thirties than I ever was in my twenties and taking the time to be single and getting to know myself had a lot to do with that.

@sporty1216 thanks! I wish this heartburn wasn't keeping me up right now! It would be great to sleep!

@lillebowski23  propping the head of the bed up on risers really helps at night.  I just started taking the occasional Zantac if it's really bad, heartburn sucks :)
Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • I was told to use Tums for the heartburn rather than my usual Zantac when I got pregnant. But I believe Zantac is okay if Tums isn't working. Just wanted to throw that out there.

  • Yeah Zantac is generally pretty safe for pregnancy but I'd try Tums first and talk to your OB if that's not sufficient. Propping up in bed is definitely helpful. I'm actually amazed that I haven't had any significant heartburn yet in pregnancy (knock on wood) because I have a BAD history of terrible/painful/intractable acid indigestion. It's 100% stress-related for me though, so I've been making a major effort at stress reduction during this pregnancy (exercise, meditation, massage) and I think that's been helpful.
