Amber teething necklace.

Does anyone have experience with this? Thoughts? I've googled it some, but want real life reviews! TIA!

Re: Amber teething necklace.

  • Mine should arrive this week I'll be sure to let y'all know how it works. My friend has a 7th month old and she is the one who told me about it. Her LO loves it!!!

  • I have a friend with an 18 month old...she swears by them!  Says they work for so much more than just teething.  I am still skeptical, but she says the LO now gets fussy if she doesn't wear it.

  • Awesome. I'm still skeptical thinking it's a placebo effect. Definitely keep us updated @heatherkennedy021 :)
  • I have a teething necklace and she loves playing with it and gnawing on it! What's an amber necklace?
  • Following this. I am interested in getting one for Leo. Anyone know if they have bracelets? I think I would feel better if it was around is ankle than his neck.

  • I have a few friends that swear by them. Amber is supposed to release some type of compound that has a Tylenol like effect, I've read a little about that and it sounds like body temp isn't high enough for that claim to make much sense. I worry about the chocking risk. I own an amber necklace (because it is pretty) and my neck muscles seem less tense when I wear it...so the placebo works on me :D
  • I don't think the Amber necklaces work at all. I did buy the silicon teething necklaces though; however, I did not wear them and had DS wear them instead. I thought that it would be a bad idea for him to think that he could grab/chew on my jewelry, but he loved having something to chew on. He was 100% supervised when wearing it, but that is what worked best for us.
  • Wait, the babies wear the necklace? I thought the moms wore them and the baby can play and gnaw on it while being held...

Typically the mom does wear the necklace...I just thought that this was not the best idea, so I had my son wear it instead. It served the purpose of him having something to play with and to teeth on, without him thinking that it was ok to grab/chew on my jewelry.

The silicone teething necklaces are supposed to be worn by mom and chewed on. Amber teething necklace is worn by baby and soothes as it touches the skin (as an above poster explained). We got one a few days ago and my son wears it around his ankle. Not sure if it works yet

I have 2 SILs who used them and think they work amazingly well, but I look at them and immediately think "Choking hazard!!!"

I haven't used them yet, and doubt I ever will. Then again, so far my kids have handled teething like champs, and often popped teeth before I even realized they had started teething. I might change my tune if DS2 has a really bad time with it.

  • I don't think my LO will wear it my friend who has one always watches her LO when she has it but she just lets her hold it and chew on it. My LO when being held now chews on my clothes so I'd rather her chew on my necklace rather than my clothes. Hopefully it will arrive soon! And I can let y'all know.
  • I had no idea the child had to wear it? There's no way in hell I will be letting her wear it!
  • There are two different kinds of necklaces being discussed here. One being the amber necklace which is meant for the child to wear and supposedly has pain relieving properties. The other is a necklace that mom wears that is designed to be safe for baby to chew on.
