Plus Size Outerwear?

Hi ladies!  Now that the weather if warming up (at least here in Chicago) I'm looking for a spring jacket.  Being well endowed, especially now in the bust region, I'm probably going to need an XL or larger light jacket.  However, I can't find any online or in stores, let alone at a reasonable price!  Anyone have any stores to check out?  I've tried Zulilly, Motherhood, Kohls, Gap, Sears, PinkBlush, Target, and more......

Re: Plus Size Outerwear?

  • I'm just wearing a huge hoodie that I have from college.

  • I must be losing my mind because I read that as Plus Size Underwear!

Me too.  I've also been reading that "wrapping baby" thread title as warping baby....baby brain is real!

If you're looking for something casual North Face and Columbia both have plus sizes online.

Eta: they wouldn't be maternity though, wasn't thinking about that lol. I'm in the South so at this point in just leaving my jacket unzipped
  • I bought a jacket online from Old Navy that I really like, it's not super leightweight though.

  • Have you tried any consignment stores near you? All the kids shops have a maternity section here. I'm in southern North Carolina so I'm just wearing light sweaters and layers. I'm loving the open front flows tunic cardigans right now. I also have a light jacket from Gap maternty that was a final sale for $4.88! My mom found it in the fall.

  • My suggestion is Walmart. I didn't have a winter coat that would work to cover my growing belly, so I just searched on their website. I ended up not even getting a maternity coat, but a plus size belted coat for $19! It looks like they have a lot of outerwear and if you get it belted or something, you don't have to pay the extra money for "maternity" size.
  • @PBear93 Yeah, I have a large hoodie that works for casual stuff, but its not exactly work friendly or won't hold up well on a rainy day.  Definitely a comfy option though!

@jaceyannie That is too funny!  My prego mind has been playing tricks on me too!  Fortunately, I'm not having any issues in the underwear department :)

@mdargie Kohls actually had a lot of columbia coats, but nothing quite large enough for this belly.  And I have a hard time spending 90+ dollars on a coat I'll be wearing for 2 months.  But yes, something casual like that would be good!

@laurenm2123  Hmmm, I must have missed that on Old Navy's site... heading there to check it out now!

@GinnyJ2012  Thanks for the suggestions!  I'll look to see if my local consignment shops have anything.  If I can't find anything, I'll definitely have to compromise with a cape/cardigan thing.  Was hoping to find something more zip-up style like a wind breaker for the windy rainy spring days we get here in Chicago. Plus I go for a lot of walks and do gardening, so something not too fancy for that is ideal.

@edeibel89 Hmm, I never shop at Walmart but I just might head there now!  Thanks for the suggestion!
  • H&M has some decent options. I ordered this one in an XL (I'm also well-endowed), and it fits great and seems like it will fit throughout my pregnancy.

  • I'm just using cardigans and scarves.  Can't cope with shopping for more.
  • Old Navy has a selection of outerwear that goes on sale pretty often.  They have XL and XXL in the regular section and plus sizes too.  They also have maternity stuff.  This time I've year I've gotten some great sales.  Cabelas is another place that has good sales and plus sizes.
