Dream feeding

Is anyone else dream feeding? My LO currently sleeps from 8pm to around 2am then 230am to 5am and then is awake every hour after. He's currently just over 11 weeks. He sleeps in his crib, but I'll occasionally bring him to bed with me after his 5am wakeup since I'm always so tired.  I want to begin dream feeding him and I've heard 10-11pm is the optimum time to do this. Does anyone else have success with their LOs doing this? What was your experience? I plan on trying it tonight and would love any insight or suggestions anyone has.

Re: Dream feeding

  • I did it with DD. I just watched her and when she'd start rooting I'd feed her so she'd never fully wake up. It helped a lot with getting her days and nights regulated.

  • I do it bed. She moves and roots so I just place the boob in her mouth ;)
  • I'm interested in this too. Right now we bedshare and I put Nico down around 8 and go downstairs for a couple hours. He's still waking up about twice a night and I would love to go longer stretches since I'm back at work.
  • We do it! Cole goes to bed around 8 and we bedshare. I am a light sleeper now so when I feel him wiggle and stir I stick a boob in his mouth and we doze off when he's done. It's saved my sanity and allows me to get enough sleep to make it thru my days! Also, motn snuggles are THE BEST!
  • Has anyone dream fed with a bottle?
  • We bedshare and dream feed for every MOTN feed. She gets restless and roots around, waking me up when she's hungry and I just latch her on and go back to sleep.
  • Currently I'm doing it with a bottle because I have physical health issues that make it impossible for me to lay down and feed him. LO goes to sleep at 8:30pm and sleeps on my lap and around 10:00 we will feed him a bottle before we go upstairs. I haven't found that it changes his sleep schedule very much though. He sleeps till 2:30-3:30 and then 2 hours after that and then every hour.

  • I do it after our first motn feeding. Over the last week DD has stopped sleeping from 8:45/9 to 3 and 3:30-6:30 and is now getting up at 12:30, 2:30, and 4:30/5. So the only way I can function is dream feeding during those last 2 sessions instead of her waking up. I can't really go back to sleep while she nurses, but it's a lot more relaxing than getting in an upright position and needing to rock her back to sleep.

Do you find your LO wakes up fully when you bottle feed? DD gets breast and a big bottle before bed, goes down around 8/9 and I was thinking of doing a bottle df around 11 so I can keep my breast milk supply up for the motn feedings but worried DD will wake fully if I give her a bottle. Guess there is only
    one way to find out.
  • Do you ladies burp your LO's? Or no because they're half asleep?

I have not needed to burp my LO yet as she feeds side lying and it tends to be more relaxed so they take in less air and have less burps!

I didnt. However I started because she was getting fussy due to gas.

I also dream feed, just pop it in and fall back asleep. But I don't burp her motn. I've tried before but she just wakes up and never goes back to sleep. She does have gas in the morning so we just wake up with immediate bicycle exercises and it gets the gas right out.

Sometimes. If she's fidgety after a motn session I will try to burp her. She typically stays asleep during, which I think makes it harder. I just pick her up and sit up in bed and then lay her back down.

I do, DD is EFF. As soon as she starts to stir I get up and warm her bottle and change her. Somehow she still stays asleep through it all. She goes to bed around 8:30 and wakes up around 4:30-5, then she eats every 2 hours.

No we don't because I don't want her to wake up. We don't normally have a gas problem in the morning (she does fart a lot while she's asleep) but if she gassy we just go through gas relieving methods right away.
  • Do you do a diaper change with a dream feed? My DD usually sleeps until 12-1 then eats and sleeps until 4 or 5 then is up every hour. She usually stirs around 11 and I give her a pacifier but wondering if I should dream feed instead of giving a pacifier. When she wakes at 12 or 1 I change her diaper but sometimes she is wide awake after feeding and stays up for a hour or two! It's very frustrating I am still getting only about 4 hours of broken sleep a night! I'm just worried about not changing her diaper because she is fussy about messy pants during the day and she still has a little poop with pretty much every diaper change. She is EBF by the way.
  • If it's poo I'd change, pee I don't, we have a very heavy diaper come morning though, last few days it's leaked so I think we need to go up a size for nights (we'll see if that works)
  • I dream feed and bed share. It has totally changed my life!
If she's fussy I'll try to burp her but she almost never burps. She also farts a lot in her sleep. I change her right before we go to bed and then again at like 5/6am. I don't do motn diaper changes because she hasn't pooped yet in her sleep but she does shart sometimes  :D
  • We don't do MOTN changes. I will if there's poop but the two times she pooped it was sometime between the last feed and wake up so it didn't get changed until I woke up to change her.
  • Just an update - we attempted dream feeding that night but unfortunately it was the beginning of his 12 week leap and backfired pretty badly resulting in him being awake every 2 hours. Going to try again in a few days once he overcomes this leap  :s
