Some Drs and their offices really suck...

Anyone else not a fan of their dr?

Heres my reasoning...

So I switched to an OB closer to my house when I got pregnant but she's a total B! She called to tell me my bloodwork came back normal so while I was on the phone with her, I asked her what to do about morning sickness, thinking maybe she had a different solution she could quickly share. Instead of a quick answer, she gave me a 2 minute lecture on how she didn't have time to sit here and talk to me and if I have a question, I need to come in to the office for an appointment. Really? She could have just thrown anything out there instead of her speech. Needless to say, I switched back to my old OB who is worth the drive. But now, her office won't return phone calls or send my records. Apparently, people have complained about this on Yelp and I just saw so I'll be adding to their complaints! I'm wondering if I should just show up there after work today since they haven't returned my 4 phone calls or send the records yet!

  • I would show up if I were you. Can you get your own records and take them to your new doctor? That's unacceptable, sorry you had to deal with that.

  • @mrsb627 That's super crappy - I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that! The way I feel today I probably would have started crying on the phone & then called her ugly names. I hope you are able to get your records & get everything switched soon!

I haven't actually met my Dr. yet - I don't go for my first visits until 10 weeks which seems sooo far away! (I'm 7w2d today), but I've had to call a few times with random questions about medications/unusual cramping, etc & the nurses I've talked to have been incredibly patient & kind. However, the scheduling staff - not so much. It took me three tries to finally get my first appt set up & they made me feel like I was annoying them by calling to ask to schedule an appt...which is what they do! I could actually hear her sigh on the phone as she said, "And when was the first day of your last period?"
  • That sucks @MrsB627 .  I think @MRSCORKER is right.  You should show up there and grab your records from them.

@Kaessi, sorry to hear that about your doctor.  When I scheduled my first appointment, they weren't very friendly either.  But my first visit was yesterday, and before leaving the office, SO had a brilliant idea.  He told me to schedule all my appointments for the next 3 months, since it'll be monthly visits, and that way we can get the late appointments (4PM). The lady at the front desk, happily obliged.   Just a tip, for when you go and visit. :)
  • I have trouble getting my OB office to answer phone calls. I found that if I email them, I get a quicker response. Maybe that'll work?
  • I would make a personal appearance and wait in the waiting room until the records were provided.

  • My OB is an hour away and he's worth the drive. I love him; he's the kindest person and having him deliver DD was a great experience. I briefly thought about switching to a closer OB but nah. I think if you're comfortable with someone, the commute is worth it especially with private and delicate matters. Go where you feel the most comfortable and march in there and get your records!

  • I love my doctor, the office staff, and the nurses.  Depending on the city size you live in, there's really no reason to put up with any crap that you're not comfortable with.  There are plenty of doctors who are amazing...typically word of mouth is your best bet.  Now is the time to make a switch, toward the end you'll be going to a lot of appointments, and not only that, you want a doctor you can trust and be comfortable asking questions and communicating your needs.

With dd, I chose an ob close to my house, and at my first appointment I waited for over an hour before the actual appointment.  Then waited another 20-30 mins for the nurse to come in to my room for blood draws, etc.  Then at least another 20-30 for the doctor to come in for the ultrasound.  That was my last appointment with her and I was so happy when I switched.  You're paying (presumably) a lot of money for the services you receive.  You should be 100% happy with your provider.  I would absolutely switch if I were you, her attitude was ridiculous.  And yes, just show up...I imagine there is a medical records transfer form you have to fill out anyway.  Good luck!

Great idea @annabenanna ! Thanks for the tip
  • @nlane0723, good idea in theory but not practical. An in person visit to request the records is fine but staff rarely have time right then and there to provide copies of the record. They have no obligation to do so, either. Usually the doctor has to tell them exactly which pages are being given and sign off on the request, which is where the holdup tends to be.

  • I'm not sure about the state laws where you are but its my impression that under HIPAA they are required to provide all medical records that are part of your chart when requested. The doctor in this case doesn't have the right to limit which things to include or to refuse to provide your records legally, but they might have a policy on how long they can take to respond to your request. If they're not answering the phone yea go in person and see if you can get anywhere. If they don't do it after you talk to them and request your record in writing, I wouldn't waste time complaining on Yelp so much as filing a complaint to the licensing board. But first things first, I hope you can just get what you need when you go!
  • I actually left them a not so nice message this morning on 3 different extensions and finally got a back. I told them as per HIPPA they legally had to give me my records. They said they should have them tomorrow and they will call me when they are ready. I've only done 2 appointments with them but they have the stuff from the infertility specialist. I definitely am going to say something but not till after I get all my stuff lol

I like my doctor. Unfortunately her office staff is the pits!

Maybe you just caught her on a bad day, in the middle of a long string of phone calls, when the previous caller would not shut up. Or maybe not.
