NBR: Couches

H and I can't decide between a sectional or a couch and love seat. The sectional is larger but isn't as versatile as far as placement in the room as the couch/love seat. They are similarly priced. I'll add pictures of both. I'd appreciate your thoughts!

Sectional all the way, for comfort. We have a smaller sectional and I am obsessed with the corner seat, it is so comfy! And the chaise piece is perfect for napping.

I have a dog but she's not allowed on any furniture- couch or our bed. In fact, she loves her dog bed!

Truthfully having had kids an pets. I would not go for either. I can only talk from my experiences, but th sectionals always separated an kids love to get 'stuck' between pieces. Couches, well it's more the cushions I hate now. The amount of liitle thing that end up in the couch and th crumbs and dirt just drive me. Not to mention how the cushions will no longer stay tucked in and there is always a gap between t cushion an back o the couch now.

My next one will be recliner style I think. No cushions, no separation.

I really love the sectional. I am torn because I love to move furniture around and with this piece I have to commit to placing it on only one wall.

I appreciate your input. My daughter is 2 and isn't into playing on the furniture, but I see how this could be an issue with a sectional.

We have a microfiber sectional and it works wonderfully for our family! There are brackets racheted on from underneath to keep it from separating and I've never had an issue cleaning it or vacuuming dog hair from it.

ETA: Ours has removable cushions-- and the covers zip off too so that they can be washed separately or re-stuffed down the line. It makes it very easy to clean.

Good to know! I think this one is also secured with brackets. Thanks for your input,@kbrands7.

We got a sectional when I was pg with DD1. I don't know how the one you like is set up but mine has a lounge on one side of it that came in handy while I was recovering. I was able to lay out with enough room to wiggle and have a little person beside me as well. It felt like being in bed and was easier than being bed to sit up.

I do love the chaise part of this particular sectional. The picture above is exactly how it will be arranged in the room if we go that route.

Our sectional looks almost just like that and I love it! Yes it takes up most of the living room but comfy and worth it!

The sectional above is very similar to ours. When we were shopping for living room furniture, MH was set on getting a sectional, and I wanted something more traditional with a separate couch and love seat. We ended up getting a great deal on our sectional, and now I love it. It has been great for entertaining because you get so much more seating. Ours is microfiber, and like some PPs said, pet hair does stick to it really bad. Our dog is not allowed on the furniture either, but his fur is sometimes transferred to the couch from our clothes, and it won't brush off the microfiber easily. But I bought a rotating brush attachment for my vacuum cleaner that is designed to remove pet hair, and it works great.

I don't buy furniture because I refuse to buy something the kids will just trash. I've been gifted four couches over the last 9 years. 3 have been sectionals, one was a couch and love seat. I would go for a couch and love seat long before ever choosing a sectional. My mom has set that has the cushions connected to the couch so nothing can fall into the bottom. I'd look for something like that.

No that was me. Is that where this is from? I love the sectional but beware if it comes damaged. We are STILL waiting for them to fix the wedge and we bought this a year ago in July! Ashley's customer service SUCKS. @Jenly17

We have a section and like @kbrands7 there's a latch that keeps the pieces together. Ours is much smaller than the one you're looking at since we are in an apartment, but I lived on it all day in the weeks after DS was born. It's also nice that we can all sit on it together now instead of having to be separated.

I was extremely unhappy with the couch I bought from Ashley's a few years ago... Told they typically last 5-7+ years, but it was already falling apart within a year with just DH and my use (no pets/kids at that time). I'd recommend checking out Lazy Boy. Our sectional from there still feels like brand new and we've had it for over 3 years (and it's made it with a 85 pound hyperactive puppy!).

This is valuable info! Ashley's was able to price match for me, but maybe I should consider another option.

LOOOOOVE my sectional. Seriously, it's the best piece of furniture I ever bought. I can't remember the brand - Broyhill maybe? But it's awesome..love that DH and I can both stretch out on it. It does attract pet hair, but we just vacuum it regularly and it's no big deal.

It's a lot easier to get out of postpartum as well if this may be a factor

I like it now that DD is older bc she isn't jumping from one couch to another (yep I let my kid jump on the couch) which could potentially result in broken bones bc it's all connected

We have a Broyhill with the flex-steel frame. It's super sturdy!

Based on what they look like I'd go with the couch/love seat. I hate microfiber and I love that grey color. Plus if you like rearranging furniture often this will give you more options.

I love the gray color and the styling of the love seat/couch too. The look of the sectional is just 'ok'. Ahhhh, decisions are so hard for me to make!

I have that exact same sectional! Ours is arranged in the opposite way though. FWIW, we have an almost 3 year old and a German shepherd (who isn't allowed on the couch but sneaks while we're not there) and ours has held up really nicely. We've had lots of spills on it but we've always been able to clean it up. DD has also never gotten stuck in between the pieces. I think it's really comfortable! We've had it going on 2 years with no issues, and we didn't have any issues with Ashley.

based only on aesthetics I prefer the couch and love seat. I think it's more versatile and is a better look.

Right? I wish I could find a sectional in the same styling as the couch combo.
