Infertility

New here (child mentioned and loss mentioned)

hello ladies. I'm about 2 months away from turning 37. I have a 3 year old and had a MC last June. We have been trying for almost a year and a half. I finally went to my dr in January and have an appointment with a RE on Wednesday. I've had my blood tested, my husband had a semen analysis and today I had an HSG. It was uncomfortable as they said it would be but I felt fine right after. However I did have blood on a pad when I got home. And now I still am a little crampy and bloated, almost like how I feel when I first get my period. Has anyone experienced anything like this? If so, how long do you feel this way after? I'm due to O in the 4-5 days.

Re: New here (child mentioned and loss mentioned)

  • Hi and welcome!
Sorry that you have to join us lovely ladies.

I haven't had a HSG before, so no advice there.
But I do believe the blood is from them maybe accidentally hurt you inside (I have that even with IUI) and cramping will be because your uterus is giving a little fit as to say 'what the f did you just do to me!'

    GL on your journey!

  • Welcome and goodluck!

I think it took a day or 2 to feel completely normal after my HSG.  You're crampy because they just put all that dye in there so once it's all gone you'll feel better.  I think I also spotted for a day or 2 after.

  • Welcome! Sounds normal to me. Sometimes when they insert a catheter (for IUI or HSG or even for a pap smear) it can irritate your cervix and cause spotting and cramping. Especially since you also had dye injected. Drink a lot of water to try to flush it out. You should feel better in a day or two. I would call your doctor Monday if you're still having trouble.

    Good luck :relaxed:

  • Stuuuaaart Hello and welcome!  HSG itself was not a terrible experience for me , I had little cramping and bloating afterwards but I felt normal in the afternoon. But I had spotting/light bleeding for almost 5 day, it was not constant but on and off for days. The dr had told me that it is normal. Good luck with your treatments !
  • Thank you ladies. I appreciate your comments  :)
  • I had some bleeding for a couple of days too. I'm pretty sure its normal. By the time you are due to O you should be good and ready! GL! Welcome and hope your stay here is very short!

  • Welcome @Stuuuaaart - yes. spotting like that and cramping after HSG VERY normal, so don't fret. The joys of being poked and proded as an infertile I suppose. It can actually increase your chances of conceiving naturally (don't want to get your hopes up as you may have other things preventing conception) so give it a go and don't worry about it interfering with anything. You should heal up and recover really quick :) Welcome to the forum :)
