Trying to Get Pregnant

Trying to conceive-brown discharge 3-5 days before period every month

I'm getting concerned because we are trying for #2 and the past three months I am spotting around cycle day 10 brown discharge and sometimes a dark brown/red mixed in. It doesn't require a pad or tampon but it's sometimes on my liner and I see it when I wipe. I also notice some (sorry TMI) tissue like brown discharge in the toilet at times too during this time. It lasts here and there for 3-5 days until I get my period which is typically 14dpo and my temps drop the day I get my period every month. I have been about a 26 day cycle and ovulating the 12 or 13th cycle day. I'm using clear blue advance opk testing which have been consistent with the 2 high and then solid smile for peak days and my temps have shown the increase every month as well indicating Ovulation should have occurred. I have spotted some brown after predicted ovulation also. This last month was just day two after ovulation and the cycle before was days 2,3 and a little on day 4. I'm worried the brown spotting is a signal something is not right especially in my luteal phase so if anyone has any experience with this I would gladly listen to your story. My doctor said they will see me to discuss it but they are really not sure why it's happening so they probably won't be much help. Past history  We conceived my son on our first month of trying June 2014 at age 34, delivered at age 35. I used the same clear blue test and my cycle was very similar length wise and I also got two flashing smiles meaning high and then a solid smile for peak on the third say so this is all very consistent. I did have some brown spotting around cycle day 10 and 12 that month we fell pregnant and they thought it was implantation. It was much less then what I am getting now. Everything was fine that pregnancy as well. I am now 36 and I went off of the pill in October of 2015 in efforts to start trying for #2 in January. This past month we actually timed it according to the opk kit but did not have sex on the day they predicted was ovulation day, hubby was away but we did it the two days before O day.  Any help would be greatly appreciated especially since my doctors office doesn't think they have any info to give me. Thank you!

Hi OP.  I don't have any wisdom for you, but just wanted to say that this topic comes up a lot.  I just did a search for "luteal phase spotting" on the search bar at the bottom of the main TTGP threads page and a ton of threads popped up.  There has been a lot of great wisdom passed previously, and that may be a better place to start.  Just to clarify, do you mean the spotting starts 10dpo and you normally get your period around 14dpo?  A regular period at CD14 would definitely be cause for concern.

  • Thank you so much for your response. I think I worded that incorrectly. My cycle has been about 26- 27 days long. I ovulate on day 12 or 13 every month thus far and I am getting my period 14 days later after ovulation. I will look that up and read what others have written thank you!
  • Same question as @virginiaham   I'm assuming you meant 10 dpo. Otherwise to be honest it sounds like spotting. I get spotting quite often before my period officially arrives. I wouldn't be overly concerned. Sometimes it just happens with no known reason.

  • @njefremow A 14 day LP is actually right where you want to be even with some spotting. Spotting is a common thing that often occurs near ovulation, after sex, before your period, and pretty much any time in between. Unfortunately spotting rarely has any rhyme or reason but during your cycle, it's rarely a cause for concern. I recently started spotting a day or two before my period with no issues. If you're really concerned you can bring it up with your OB/GYN but I wouldn't be too concerned. So long as your LP is greater than 10 days, you're pretty much in the clear.
