December 2015 Moms

Another travel thread

In just over a week I am taking my then 12 week old to a conference. My mom has offered to come with me to help. The conference is close enough that we will drive (3 hour drive, expecting 4.5 hours with DD). We will be in a hotel from Tuesday night to Saturday morning. I'm feeling pretty stressed about being gone so long without some of the comforts of home.

What are your suggestions for packing? We don't have a mobile bouncer, just a rock n play that she only marginally tolerates anymore. I requested a hotel pack n play, should I bring my own though?

Any suggestions to help this go smoothly?

Re: Another travel thread

  • Personally I'd bring my own pack n play, I would be worried about the cleanliness of the hotel one. I'd also bring snuggly blankets for LO and any toys they are into (if any yet). Maybe a fan for white noise, if you don't have a machine.

  • Do you have an activity gym you can fold up and take with you? My 11 week old loves his and we brought it with us when we went to see family in another state.
  • @esscapelle I thought the same but my mom was adamant we just use the hotel one. Honestly she usually winds up in bed with me, but my mom likes the pack n play for naps.

The play mat does fold up so that's a good idea.

    Thanks!
  • White noise for the win.
  • Last night I was laying in bed thinking of a list to pack and knew I needed white noise. And while I'm not the biggest fan of our white noise machine, at least it's small enough to pack!!

If you want to bring yours than you should bring it. Don't let your mother make the decision for you. If you're comfortable with one from the hotel than that's fine but let it be your decision. Also keep in mind it's usually first come first served with those so there could be a small chance there isn't one available for you.
I just suggest bringing any home comforts you can that are regularly used and anything you can that's normally part of LOs daily routine.

This, and/or it could be missing parts. (This actually happened to us. We flew to another province for a wedding, and when we got to the hotel they had the playpen, but not the flat mattress part for DS1 to lay on. The whole thing was totally useless.) I definitely agree it needs to be your decision though!
