When to stop swaddling

Please forgive me if there is already a post about this...but I searched and found nothing.

I currently swaddle (with arms in) our 2 month old baby girl every night. At nap time, we try to use the swaddles that are "arms out"...but she doesn't sleep as well.

When do you have to stop swaddling with arms in? Any STMs out there that have ran into this and have some tips/advice ?! I'm a little nervous that my baby girl won't sleep as sound if she has her arms free.

Re: When to stop swaddling

  • When baby can roll over it is recommended to stop swaddling.

  • What we have been doing is swaddling with a loose swaddle, that way as our son moves around in his sleep he can shimmy his arms out to get used to it. Our pedi said to do this so that they can start to learn to roll over.  They need their arms to be able to do this.  He's been sleeping fine like this and usually wakes up with arms out, and it hasn't effected his sleep at all.
  • Oh, and our son is 2 months as well :)
