Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

3 blighted ovums

hi,
ive had 3 blighted ovums and Ive done genetics, an hsg, and a ton of labs. Everything is normal according to my ob. So he suggested I try again or can refer to an RE. That doesn't sit well. I think im going to see a holistic dr who can look deper and order any other labs that may help and go from there. Im pretty devastated. I don't think im ready for IVF. I dont think ive done all that I can. I hope he finds something. Anyone with success after 3?

  • You may have better luck getting success stories if you post this on the Pregnant After Loss board. Many ladies don't check this board as often once they get pregnant again.

  • I agree with @AL_TwinCities but did want to add that the idea of going to see an RE is not terrible.  I've found my RE to be one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable medical professionals I have ever encountered.  REs don't only do IVF, that's not what you'd be signing up for.

  • I'm so sorry you've had to go through all of this! I just had my first blighted ovum and it was devastating...I can't imagine three. Sorry I don't have any real advice for you. I just wanted to offer my sympathies.

  • Hi I'm so sorry. I also possibly have a blighted ovum. (6 weeks 6 days empty sac) I repeat my ultrasound in 2 weeks just to be sure, but, I know this is it. I just wanted to say ((hugs)) and I'm so sorry. I highly recommend acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine. I don't know if that interests you but, I used acupuncture to get pregnant. Although it is not viable, after I miscarry, I plan to dive deeper into acupuncture and herbs before I TTC again.
  • Im going to try it:) i just never thought this would take long and be so hard. All my friends have 1 and our now on to their 2 or 3rd baby. it's embarrassing and Im 34 going on 35 in Oct. I hope this works
  • Even if you do find you need to see a RE, I would continue acupuncture if you start it. I have a friend that did acupuncture in addition to IVF, specifically before retrieval and after transfer. I should clarify, acupuncture is okay to combine with western fertility treatments but, I don't know if I would mix herbs and fertility drugs.

Just explore it, I do think it helps.
  • I am so sorry for your losses. It can be so defeating to experience, but you are not alone.

I have to echo what @BrightenMySky said. I encourage you to go see an RE. Please don't consider it the closing of one door, but rather it opens so many more. My RE is looking at labs and tests that my ob/gyn would never have done, not because she didn't care, but because it was beyond her expertise and experience.

So far, my RE is invested in us getting more answers so that we can make the most informed decision about trying again to conceive naturally, before we discuss or move to assisted reproduction. I am hopeful that you can get a referral and move in that direction so that you may be able to get more info on potential causes.

I am sorry to have to meet you here, but am available to answer any questions you may have... I have had multiple losses (unexplained RPL), have been seeing an acupuncturist, and only started with the RE in December, but am hopeful it is the final step in getting us to maintain a healthy pregnancy. xo

  • If you are leaning towards a holistic Doctor, what about an ob/gyn that does NaProTechnology/Creighton model. I had a history of 2 CP, 1 BO & 1 MMC before finding mine. I saw & consulted 2 RE's, 1 who was worthless and couldn't think outside the box and the other discovered my MTHFR but couldn't give me many answers. My NaPro doc discovered I had Luteal phase defect III.
