Need to know I'm not alone

Does anyone else's babies fight naps like mine? When it's nap time she will honestly scream and cry while I rock her and finally crash out. She doesn't do this for every nap but atleast once a day. I feel like I'm missing something. She has a full belly sometimes ill BF or sometimes I'll just rock her but she ends up screaming and is then out. I just need to know I'm not alone as its wearing on me today. DD has been a pretty fussy baby from day 1 and cries quite a bit still for pretty much everything. Urg when does it end?

DD will not nap on her own. She will fuss or cry or scream if I don't catch it in time. I have to rock and nurse her to sleep for almost every nap.
I don't know when it ends but you arent alone.

So I'm likely missing the early ques? Urg it breaks my heart and annoys me all in one lol!
  • My dd too! She's soooo fussy. I have to catch it right, feed her & put her in the swing - no tv on - lights dim. I finally just gave in to "down time" starting at 5pm which is terrible bc I try to feed my son dinner at 5pm.
Anyway sooooo frustrating you are not alone!!

All of this. DS is worse with DH because of the lack of "the boob" but yeah.
  • Phew, you guys are making me feel better. Feeling like a pos parent today.

no you're not alone. Even when Olive gives me sleepiness cues, she won't nap without being held or strapped to one of us. She will NOT go into her bassinet for any reason other than bedtime. Her swing either makes her fuss or she just sits in it grinning at the rest of us. Boob only puts her to sleep at night. The only thing guaranteed to put her out is motion, either in her stroller or in the car. Or being snuggled and rocked. I honestly think it's natural at this age.

Definitely normal at this age. DD is doing it and DS went through it at the same age. It's not a stage I missed at all. It does eventually pass though and that's getting me through it this time.

ETA the biggest thing we found that helps is a strong routine for sleep. We built our bedtime routine and nap time is a shortened version of it. It let's them know it's time for sleep. Of course they figure this out and fight it harder but it goes faster.

Exactly this. Sleeps like a champ most nights in his bassinet but don't dare put him in it or his crib for nap time. Baby wearing naps have been my go to the past couple weeks
  • Yes mine fights every nap and after a long bum pat/shhhhh/Rock she usually only lasts maybe 30 mins and I feel like I failed
  • So DD just started daycare this week, and I warned them that she will not nap for me. I get maybe one or two small ones a day. Well, now I feel totally incompetent because they have gotten 4 naps a day out of her all week! What is this voodoo?? They Swaddle her arms down and strap her in the swing, turn off the lights and put on classical music and they said all the babies sleep. I tried that very thing today and it only worked ONCE for a 30 min nap. I just don't have the nap touch.

I do all that too and only get maybe 30 mins as well lol

DD is the same way.  I watch her like a hawk and still miss cues sometimes, but she fights it no matter what.  She will nap in the car,  stroller, or sometimes the swing,  but usually I have to hold her.

  • How are you ladies getting 30 minute naps? Haha DD napped for 5 minutes today, this after 15 minutes of rocking her. Well at least she doesn't fuss or cry.. instead she laughs at me when I try to put her down like its a game.

My secret...I don't put her down for naps...she's either held or worn. Ugh I feel like I'm making a bad habit but we're doing whatever works! Ugh. Who knew naps would be so hard?!
  • Oh my DD will nap and she naps well. I usually get 1- 2 hour nap and then 2/3 30-45min naps. She is held for ever nap or in her car seat or carrier but she fights to the death to go down for these naps.

Yes, my kid hates to nap and she gets so upset and overtired. She is also easy overstimulated. When I get really desperate and she really needs to nap I resort to the stroller or baby wearing. Even when I catch the early cues she just fights going to sleep. I think some babies just find the world too exciting, and they don't want to miss a moment.
    All of this!!

  • oops I meant you aren't alone in my earlier post.
I majorly facilitate sleeping/napping conditions and we bedshare because DD will not tolerate being put down.
Even though it can be frustrating I'm just going with it right now.

Yep! My baby insists on being held all the time. He just falls asleep while I am wearing him or holding him whenever he falls asleep. I don't try to make it happen.

Yes we cosleep and co nap together as well or she'd likely never sleep lol.

Daycare workers honestly have a very special touch of voodoo with calming and putting babies down to sleep. It's amazing.

I woke in a daycare before having kids. There's a magic to having a room full of sleeping babies. I swear it's routine. We do the same things everyday at the same times so they know what to expect and when. They learn when this thing happens I get food or this other thing happens and we sleep. I try to keep things fairly flexible to allow for when things happen but also try to stay as consistent as possible so that one thing doesn't derail the entire day.

DS watches a movie in the late morning then lays down for a nap around 12-1pm. DD naps at this time and around 5-6pm when DS eats dinner. She gets cranky when she's tired but sleeps really well once she's out. Bedtime starts 7-8pm and they're both in bed between 9-10pm. This is what works for us anyway.
  • I've just spent the last 3 bloody hours nursing & rocking & patting & shushing while hubs & ds f-off in the next room. I finally asked (demand) they be quiet bc my nipples were going to fall off. Every time she'd close her eyes some noise would wake her right back up! I'm sooooooo unnerved!! I wish I was still smoking for christs sake!! I just put her in the swing bc I can't.take.it. And also made hubs put ds down to bed.  I think he's fallen asleep in there!!!! Arggggg
sorry for the rant. Sleeping is hard. Who the f knew?

Right there with you ladies and also wishing I still smoked. Somedays I want to invite my smoker friends over so I can bum one but I'm over a year smoke free now so I don't wanna start again.
DH is taking the sleep shift tonight as she hasn't really napped much today 4-40min naps at the most. Urg!
  • Definitely not alone...but I will say she has been better the last 3 days and this coincides with the end of her second leap based off her wonder weeks. Maybe a crock of poo but who knows. The only change I've made is turning up the ocean sound by her RNP to blaring level. The first night I did this she slept 9 hours so I've started doing it for naps also and it seems to be working. She also gets swaddled when I can tell she's tired, we nurse, I play white noise from my phone, then I lay her down once she's asleep. My husband jokes it sounds like a wind tunnel in our room but she's napped 2-3 hour stretches the last couple days which is a huge change from her previous 15-20 mins. So I hope she continues this way..
