Dollar Tree Tests

I have several very obvious positive FRERs and lines are getting darker, which is awesome! But, I used some dollar tree tests I had lying around and none of them seem to have the faintest line! I should be around 16 DPO. Would you be concerned?

Re: Dollar Tree Tests

  • I have a few questions:

are the Dollar Tree tests expired?
are you reading the FRER within the recommended time frame?
are you temping? Because if not then you have no idea you are around 16 dpo and you could be testing extremely early.  It doesn't matter how 'regular' your periods usually are, ovulation can come at any time in the month.

I would by a digital to confirm if you are unsure.

Nope, brand new dollar tree tests.
Yes, I am following the FRER instructions exactly.
I used OPKs so I know exactly when I ovulated. I never said my periods were "regular". I know I am DPO, because of the OPKs.

Okay, but OPKs detect an LH surge which can happen at any time in your cycle and can happen multiple times.  It doesn't mean ovulation has occurred. Just the same, a woman can ovulate without turning an OPK positive.  So what I'm saying is that you may not be 16dpo yet and that could be why you aren't turning the cheapies positive yet.  My FRER showed a strong positive while my cheapies showed a very, very faint positive.

OPKs can only predict ovulation, not confirm it. It's possible to get a multiple positive OPKs in a cycle without actually ovulating, and it's also possible to O up to 48 hours after a positive OPK. Only temping can confirm O. So, you could actually be 14 DPO or earlier if you're just using OPKs.

I'd also suggest going and buying a digital. I was able to turn a clearblue easy digital at 13 DPO. FRERs were positive for me, but Wondfos weren't, so test sensitivity matters a lot.
  • But, don't FRERs pick up a lower HCG than the CB digitals?

  • @paintedtulips I think tests work differently for everyone, for whatever reason.  I know women who turned Wondfo's positive before FRERs. I turned a FRER positive before a Wondfo.  Some women have a positive blood test before ever being able to turn any hpt positive.

  • I thought so too, but if you really are 16 DPO, the digital would be positive. The ones I bought are 99% accurate from the day of your missed period, or so they say. Buy a box and see. If it's negative, wait a few days and try again. Good luck.
  • I got a faint line on a FRER at  9 dpo. The next day, I got a faint line on a Clear Blue (not digital). The dollar store test I also took on 10 dpo was negative. I temped to confirm so I knew exactly how many dpo it was. The dollar store test and the clear blue had the same sensitivity according to their instructions.

With my last pregnancy, I tested using Internet cheapies and FRERs. Both got darker but the cheapies never got as dark as the FRERs. Try not to put too much stock in it.

  • I have a box of wondfos coming in the mail, I think I'll wait and start testing with those. If those are also negative, I'll go and buy a digital.

  • I just got my BFP on a FRER today at 13dpo. I had been getting faint lines on FRERs since 11dpo but didn't trust them because I had been getting evap/indent lines every single time previously. I also tested on a FRER digital today and got a +Yes. I tried one of my Dollar Tree tests and only turned the faintest of faint squinters. I probably wouldn't even have noticed if had I not gotten a BFP this morning. I was also using OPKs to predict my O date and not temping so I am thinking I may have O'd a day or two later than what I was thinking.
