1st Trimester

Small gestational sac

hi ladies,

I'm scared & am hoping to hear some 'been there & everything worked out fine' stories....

Im calculated to be about 8 weeks along, today was fateful first appt with my OB & it looked more like a 7 week pregnancy. My cycles are usually 33 days and if thought it was kind of certain given the bedroom activity leading to this pregnancy. It wasn't planned & took us by surprise but it's VERY much wanted. The only positive is that there was a good heartbeat....but small gestational sac.

I had a MC before having my daughter & I don't know how I can go thru losing another baby. Anybody have any encouragement? I go back next week to see if there is growth so 2 days of awful limbo here we go.

Anybody that prays please send some prayers my way ❤️

Re: Small gestational sac

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. We're you temping to confirm ovulation? If not, you may have ovulated later than "normal" so dating based on LMP would put you ahead of where you actually are. This happens pretty frequently with people who have longer than average cycles since dating based on LMP assumes you ovulated on CD 14, which isn't the case for everyone.
I'll keep my FX for you and send T&Ps your way! Good luc!

  • Dating scans can be +/- 4 or 5 days.  Pair that with ovulating a few days later than expected and you've easily got a weeks discrepancy in the dating scan.  Do your best not to stress, it won't help, if anything it'll just make time go that much slower.  Also, remember that a strong heart beat is always a positive sign.

I'm NOT trying to be negative here, but please be careful saying a "strong heartbeat is always a positive sign."  Many ladies, myself included, have had losses after seeing a "strong" heartbeat. Is it a positive finding? Absolutely. Is it a guarantee? Absolutely not.

OP, best of luck to you. As PP said, you may have ovulated late and ultrasound dating is not perfect. T&P for you.
  • Thank you ladies. Waiting is the worst & having had MC previously makes the worry that much worse. I looked up some info that calculated based on a 33 day cycle & THAT put me at 7w4d as opposed to the 8w2d that we had assumed... I know it's not a guarantee or anything BUT if I am indeed a week off then yesterday's appt looks absolutely normal.

thankfully I have a wonderful friend who's going to have some play dates this week w our daughters to help distract.   I'll def post an update after next appt.

THANK YOU for the t&p. I truly appreciate you ladies sending positive my way ❤️❤️❤️❤️
  • Hope you get good news this week!!
  • Friday is my next appt. I was fine up til now, as it gets closer I get more panicked by the thought of bad news. Trying to be distracted so I don't have to think about it. Fingers crossed
  • UPDATE:
Hello ladies- so yesterday I went for a follow up scan. Had been having a little bit of brown spotting. Dr said not up worry about brown spotting that bc of the extra blood that was perfectly ok but if it gets to be red then I should come in to be checked. The ultrasound showed that baby has grown exactly on target for this to be week 8 BUT the gestational sac is still rather small so we are not 'out of the woods yet'. The fetal heart rate was about 150 & strong which was a good sign.... I got back next week Friday to check again.

So another week of pregnancy purgatory. Many thanks for the T&P. Please continue to pray for this baby ❤️
