I have to get it, too. Whatever you do, don't ask @MamaNicoleof3 about it
Oh hush
I'm curious what I'm missing here!
@MamaNicoleof3 was fear mongering on another thread, I think trying to deter me from opting for the rhogam shot. I literally shit a brick when she kept on and on about how brutal it was.

It was honestly not my intention in the least to freak anyone out! I'm sorry!!
@MamaNicoleof3 of course you know, I'm just teasing you. I'm actually glad to know it may be more uncomfortable that I was anticipating. I would not have wanted to be caught unawares.

Yup. At 28 weeks and after birth with my son. I get it again in two weeks. Some ladies have said to get the injection in your upper butt and it's less painful, but I had it in my arm both times last time and I thought it was no big deal
Yep. I actually got one around 7 weeks (I had a bleeding incident) and just got my second one last week. Then I get another one after delivery if the baby is RH+, which is pretty likely.
It stings for sure, but the most recent one was in my upper arm not my hip, and I think I liked that better. I don't sit on my upper arm.
When do you know if you need this? Should they have known after the first blood draw?
If you're RH- and your child's father is RH+, they'll have you get it on the off chance that your baby is RH+. If you're RH positive then there's no reason you'd need to get it regardless of what the baby is.

If they know your blood type, which they should have taken early on (and I know I was also checked for antibodies), they will tell you. Do you know your blood type?
Also, I believe I had the flu shot in one arm and Rhogam in the other last time. I remember the Rhogam hurting more right away, but the flu shot pain lingered for a couple days!

Yes, I'm A positive. My husband doesn't know his blood type.

You definitely don't need it then. It's only given to women who are rh-

It shouldn't matter. Rhogam prevents your body from making anti-RH factor antibodies. If you are RH negative and your baby is RH positive, any accidental exposure to your baby's blood can cause your body to mount an immune response to the RH factor which will target your baby's blood cells which is bad news for the baby. Since you're RH positive, it doesn't matter what your husband or baby is, your body won't mount a response to the baby's RH positive blood since you've got the RH factor in your blood too.
Thanks! The flu shot didn't even make me sore and I move my arms a lot more than I move my hip so I'm thinking I'll definitely get it in my arm. Better pain tolerance there for sure.
Actually it was such a non-event I was convinced for months that I never got it after the birth. My midwife had to show me my chart to ease my mind because I could not remember it happening at all.
I had it at 28 weeks and again after my DD was born. My Dr let me get it early this time at 25 weeks because she said I could just get it at the same time as my glucose test. One less trip to the hospital. So I already got it this time.
Last time they did it in my butt cheek. This time they did it in the arm. Arm was way better imo. My butt was sore for a long time. My arm was only sore for maybe an hour or two. Although I might not have been thinking about it because my other arm where they drew blood for the glucose test was much more sore. The shot is no picnic but it's not horrible either.
