I have been having really strong, very painful, take my breath away, back to back contractions. I have like 5 back to back and then for like a few hours font have any at all. What could this be and what is causing it?
Drink some water and lay on your left side. Might just be Braxton hicks or could be something else. Call your doctor/midwife and see what they recommend.
I would tell the person who answers what is going on and they will consult with the doctor or nurse and either get them on the phone to talk to you or just tell you to come in.
I have been laying on my left side. They hurt so bad I have to get up and walk around..... It's beginning to get annoying
I would suggest going to the hospital. Either you call your Dr., call the hospital's labor department and talk with a nurse, or just go to the hospital... But you have to do something to get professional help. Getting advice from the Internet community is a waste of time right now.

This. I have little doubt that if you call your OB, he/she will tell you to go to L&D to be evaluated and monitored ftom what you're describing. Maybe call your doctor so that they can give the recommendation and let the hospital know you're coming, and then head to the hospital.
This happened to me at 28 weeks and they lasted about 4 hours each time. My doctor thinks mine were mild contractions caused by not cutting back/resting and needing to drink more water. I've done both these things and so far so good. They were definitely painful and did not go away by changing positions like Braxton Hicks. Hope you are feeling better!
Re: Crazy contractions at almost 31 wks
My OB's rule of thumb for braxton hicks is more than 4 per hour, if I have more than 4 in one hour I'm supposed to call and they'll want to see me.
Make sure you are drinking lots of water!
Take care!
