From work to the doctor to the hospital...

So for the past few days I've been having pain in my pelvis/groin area when I walk. It's been excruciating. Since I'm on my feet most of the day, I decided to stay home and call the doctor. An emergency erupted at work and I had to go in before I went to the doctor. When I get to the doctor, we do a transvaginal ultrasound and the doctor says my cervix has shortened to 1 cm and its funneling. He also basically told me he's not worried about my hip even though I am (whomp whomp). And then I was sent to the hospital. I spent a couple of hours in there. No contractions but I'm now on bedrest and I have another appointment tomorrow. The appointment tomorrow will confirm whether I'm in preterm labor. Oy vey what a day. Oddly enough I'm not worried but I am asking for T&Ps.

    Thanks! 30 weeks tomorrow.
  • T&P!!! I was also going to ask how far along you are..I am having a lot of pressure in my pelvic/groin area to where it is painful. It's especially painful when I get up from sitting down to walk. Is the pain like a pressure?? I ask bc I've been telling my doc about this and he said it's just part of pg blah blah blah. Definitely keep us updated!! Do you have stuff to keep you occupied?

  • T&P. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow. Hopefully it is good news
  • T&P to you and your family!
  • Sorry to hear you are having complications in the hospital!  I'm glad that you are feeling optimistic - it is so important to feel comfortable and decrease anxiety.  It sounds like the good news is that you aren't dilated and your water isn't broken, right?  Are you planning to get steroids for baby's lung maturity or IV Magnesium to decrease neurological risks for baby?  You certainly might not be even discussing these treatments prior to seeing how you are doing tomorrow!   Good Luck and Many Prayers!

Sorry your going through this!! It's good your not to stressed and hopefully it stays that way. When I was 27 weeks I went into preterm labor and didn't even know it.. I had a little bit of cramping and a couple Braxton hicks and decided to call labor and delivery and they told me to come in. By the Time i got there I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated with regular contractions every 1.5 minutes..
the doctors did the steroid injections and some medication to help calm down my uterus . I was in hospital bedrest for a while and a couple days later everything just stopped ! And my cervix stopped dilating !!
So I hope and pray you aren't in preterm labor, but if they discover you are or may be, I think you in excellent hands. Sending my t&p's !
Thanks! It's good that you caught on that something was off and went to the hospital. My mom never felt a single contraction and when my doctor asked me yesterday whether I was feeling any, I was super worried that maybe I had been having them and just couldn't feel them. I'm so glad everything worked out for you!
  • Sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

Update: the fetal fibronectin test came back negative, meaning there's a super low chance that I'll deliver within the next 2 weeks. I have another ultrasound to measure my cervix length on Tuesday and then if everything is the same, I can go back to work. Seems like it was just a scare and a message for me to slow down.
That's a great update. Give yourself permission to do less, even though it is hard. Prayers!

UPDATE: My cervix has shortened even more. Apparently it was 1.5 cm at my first appointment and now it's 0.9 cm. The doctor did a pelvic exam and said my cervix is soft. I'm permanently on bedrest and am being put on supplements. I think he said progesterone? Ladies, is that an oral supplement or a shot? So I guess I'll be using the Bedrest thread a lot more now. I suppose I was in denial. I got dressed this morning thinking I would leave the doctor and be cleared for work. Whomp whomp.
  • Sorry you have to be going through this @MsIan ! I was on progesterone earlier in my pregnancy because of fertility treatments. I was on Prometrium, which is technically a pill to be taken orally, but I had to use it as a vaginal suppository (2 twice a day up to 12 weeks, that was fun...). Some people going through fertility also take progesterone in oil injections. So not sure what would be the most likely option here. Hopefully some STMs have experience with this (although it'd be great if no one had to). Best of luck to you!

  • Hi there!  I'm sorry your cervix isn't cooperating.   I'm doing the weekly progesterone injections- IM in the buttcheek.  Some OBs use a vaginal suppository daily.  The injections continue for me until week 36.  I'm taking them due to a previous delivery at 26weeks. I'm not on bedrest, but I'm resting as much as possible because I'm contracting often.  Stay hydrated and keep your bladder empty!  Good combo, huh?!

@JennyS86 and @KidShrink Thanks for the insight. Up until 20 minutes ago, I didn't even know it was a vaginal suppository. I don't even know what that entails, but it doesn't seem pleasant. I haven't been contracting, but I am starting to feel the pressure on my cervix that the doctor has been asking me about. I joined an online book club, so at least there's that!
