So confused!

ds is confusing me to no end..he is giving all his hunger signs and then when I give him boob he jus plays with it or eats for like 5mins and then starts crying. He has been doing the same with his sleep signals. He starts rubbing his eyes hard and yawning so I try to get him to sleep and he will for 10-20mins then wake up screaming. This goes on repeat for 2-3hours

Re: So confused!

  • My LO does the same thing. If I'm not successful with feeding/putting him to sleep, we just walk around for a bit and come back to it after a few minutes. It seems like he knows he's tired or hungry but is too interested in everything around him (even when we go to a dark quiet place) so it seems walking around lets him see everything so he can get his fix lol

  • My son has taken this up the past 2 weeks. Ugh.
  • I read somewhere online that babies become more easily distracted during feeding around this time!  They recommend a quiet place with minimal distractions for nursing, which sucks because I like to watch the news when i am breastfeeding lo in the evenings!
  • Try also upping your water intake. My LO is starting to need 6 oz per meal instead of 5 and cries after a normal feeding if he starts having to work to hard to eat because there's nothing left. I've been trying like crazy to increase my supply! Maybe that could be it?

    I'll definitely try it

If I recall correctly, your son already has his first tooth.  Did he show symptoms like this when he started to teethe the first time?  Does he try to rub/hold onto/play with his ears?  It's unlikely, but the symptoms you're describing could be an ear infection.  Sometimes when you swallow or change from an upright to a horizontal position it affects the pressure in your ears and can cause pain if there is an infection present.

On the other hand, this could just be as pp have said and just be a new stage of easy distraction.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

Yes he has one of his canines budding still but it ha yet to break through. He doesn't mess with his ears but if I touch them or rub behind them at all he shys away and squirms, But doesn't react any other way. When he first started teething he was just cranky but baby orajel or infant Tylenol always helped calm him down. After giving him either of those he would relax once it kicked in and be fine, but lately that's not the case so I'm not sure if it's still teething pain causing his latest rebellions or what.
  • Perhaps give him a bottle of pumped milk. My LO was doing this overnight and I suspected it was because she was not satisfied from me. She could have been going through a growth spurt and needed more. I gave her a bottle and she slept through the night.
