Kids helping choose baby's name?

My kids are 6 and 11, and have shown tremendous interest in helping name their baby brother. Usually the names are legit, but when I just told my 6 year old that he couldn't have my blanket because the baby and I would freeze, (I know, I'm terrible) he told me maybe we could name the baby Mr. Freeze.... (He's a Super Hero fanatic) Ummm.. while I appreciate the input, I don't think we will be naming this baby Mr. Freeze LOL

I was allowed to name my little brother when I was 3.5. I wanted a "Jeffy" like from the family circus comics. He's Jeffrey. :-)

  • My 3yo (at the time) brother wanted to name me Minty.

So far DS has wanted to name the baby Margaret (like Daniel tiger's sister) and Sylvan. No idea where that one came from.
  • DS1 (almost 3yo) wants to name DS2 Ava, because he is enamored with his friend Ava. I tried to explain that Ava is a girls' name, but he won't budge, lol.

My daughter wants to name our baby rainbow lambie. Kid votes are out as far as I'm concerned!
  • @cm716 Could be worse... My best friend from when we were four tried to name her little sister "Dirty Toilet" - she was not enamored of the idea of a little sister. She and her parents compromised on "Alyssa."

  • DH and I had already picked a boy name before we even TTC but we have asked the kids what they would name him if they could... I'm pretty sure Sparkles was one of the suggestion. My step-son was also insistent that we should name him Elijah (his name...lol). We tried explaining that we don't want two kids with the same name but he did not understand why. They also suggested the names of our dog and our cat.
So yeah, no input from our kids. Love them to death, but no way. haha. As a side note though, neither of them like the name Isaac (the name we picked).

  • @Smilormarie We have a 40-something CPA in town named Cinnamon.... All I could think of with "Strawberry"

  • My DD who will be 5 in April, wants to name the baby Rosie or Tommy.
Rosie as in Calliou's sister. And Tommy as in Thomas the train.
  • @1faceinacrowd Too funny. My 4yo nephew wanted to name the baby Troy..which is his name, I then had to explain that he already has that name so he said "Doy" if it's a boy and "Troy Doy mega-toy" if it's a girl. He was being silly of course, but months later he still says those are his choices of name for the baby. I talk about the baby a lot with him as he's the only little one in the family so it will be an adjustment. I told him I'm going to be a mommy and uncle is going to be a daddy, he replied "And, I'm going to be a brother!" so along with explaining why the baby can't have the same name, I'm also trying to explain that he's going to have a cousin, not a brother lol.  Today he kissed my stomach 4 times and read baby books to the baby since I told him the baby can now hear us.

Also, my brother's name is Isaac:) My parents let me help pick (I was 10), so my brother and I had the same initials until I got married, because we have the same middle name (my mom's last name, since she always has kept her maiden name)

The only word DS knows is cat so he's definitely not getting any input.
    CATerina? CATrina? CATherine? CATullus?

  • Well my 4 year old son has been saying the baby is a Boy named Steven, since he found out about the baby.  Has never budged once, he always says boy named Steven.  He got the same Steven from an episode of Thomas the Train, so the full name is actually "Steven the Rocket".

We found out on Saturday It's a Girl!!  I'm of course thrilled.  My son is still working on letting go of Steven :)

  • @Allisun85 I went to elementary school with a Vanilla and a Chocolate who went by Choca. I'm wondering if their siblings had help there?
My little guy would pick duck, dog or this so he doesn't get a vote.
