Had a D&C tuesday. Just had a call from my doctor that pathologist doesn't think she removed all the tissue. I've had almost no bleeding or cramping since the procedure. Ugh. Glad I took the week off work. She may try to remove it in the office or I may have to go in for another D&C. Awful.

Hi @ladipale I am sorry for your loss and sorry you are going through this now. I went through similar. D&C on a Monday (minimal bleeding and cramping afterwards), and then the following Saturday I was in the ER with cramps that were not helped by ibuprofen or heat. Ultrasound indicated that there was a good deal remaining. I ended up taking cytotec the next day. At my two-week post-D&C appointment, my RE found that there was still tissue w/blood flow. Now I am waiting to see what happens--I may pass it naturally, I may pass it with my next period, or I may need more intervention. My RE suggested that would be a saline ultrasound (to see and maybe to dislodge) and then, if needed, a hysteroscopy, which I understand is like a D&C but with visualization. Are the pills an option for you? I did not find them too painful, probably because material had already been removed with the D&C and I was already cramping when I took them.

One thing to remember is that it's better with a D&C to be conservative--the alternative is a greater risk to future fertility. I know that is little consolation when you're in the thick of it. The night after being in the ER was, for me, the second hardest night I've gone through since the loss (the first being the night we found out). I thought it would be over quickly (physically) going with the D&C, but turns out that wasn't the case.

Thanks so much for responding with your experience. I guess I'd rather her take a look now then wait until I'm cramping intensely. I just thought I was healing very well physically and doc thought D&C went well. It feels like 2 steps backwards. I'll check my PM for your email. Thank you so much.

I have to have a D&E now which is a big blow - the thought that I still have pieces of embryo in my uterus is so troubling to me and makes it difficult to move forward. Have to be referred to different doctor for D&E. My OB feels awful and is confused why I'm a difficult case. Ugh - just want this over!

I had retained tissue after mine. But I was in terrible pain 2 days after the d&c that kept getting worse. 6 days after the d&c I started passing huge clots and cramping. I needed a second d&c the next morning. The frustration is awful. The second procedure was infuriating. Fwiw, after my second d&c, my cramping stopped. I'll be thinking of you.
