Infertility

Intro (Child mentioned, loss mentioned)

Hello ladies, my name is Kelsey, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been on the Bump for years, but have taken a break from posting for some time. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
A little bit about me...DH and I are both 27. We have been married for 5 years. We have a 3.5 year old son and he took about 8 months to conceive naturally. A little over 2 years ago, we started trying for a sibling. 10 months in, I found out I was pregnant, but unfortunately, the pregnancy ended up being ectopic. My right tube had ruptured so I ended up having surgery to have it removed. After another year of trying with no success, we met with a RE and started testing.
My husband's SA results were unfavorable (The RE told us that he was very surprised that I had been able to get pregnant before). With the combination of MFI, one fallopian tube, and having a very short LP, the RE recommended we start IUI. I am currently waiting for impending AF so I can schedule my baseline ultrasound, and then will start Clomid for our first IUI cycle.
Because this is our first cycle actually starting treatment, I'm pretty anxious and unsure about what to expect. Would anyone mind filling me in on exacty what to expect for an IUI cycle? From our initial consultation, all I remember is that I get a baseline ultrasound, then start medication. Do most people get the trigger shot, or any additional tests or ultrasounds after that?
Thank you, and best of luck to you all!

Re: Intro (Child mentioned, loss mentioned)

  • Hello and welcome @kk4564 ! I am sorry for your loss and the trouble for TTC. I hope the clomid and IUI do the trick for you, best of luck !
I think some clinics do these things differently, but I can share my experience. I had my baseline BW+U/s on CD2 or CD3 and they tell me to start medication on CD3 , I use Letrozole, then around CD9-10 I had another BW+U/S to monitor the follicle growth and estrogen levels. I think from that point, everything depends on how your body is responding and how the clinics do things. I had to go many times for monitoring because I have PCOS and my follicles did not grow as it is supposed to be. Then when my follicle reach a good size and estrogen was what they were looking for, I had the HCG trigger shot that night and had the IUI 36 hours later. I know some places also monitor LH to see if you surged on your own, then you wouldn`t need the trigger. But as I said, every clinic has a slightly different way of doing things .
Also, please feel free to join the March IUI post. It might be to good to share the experience with women who go through similar treatments. Good luck !

  • Hi and welcome!
Im sorry to read about your loss and all the troubles during your journey.
Ive had a few IUI, but only two monitored.
I went in for an us in CD2 or CD3 (depending if there was a Sunday involved) if my lining looked good (as I got rid of the 'old' and started building the new) I could start injections. I used gonal-f, but lower dose as I did with IVF. Start CD3
Around CD8-9-10 (again depending if there's a weekend) new us.
No bloodwork done in my hospital.
After that I went once or twice. Depending if I had a long cycles or not. I didn't take a trigger shot as I do ovulate (just no mature eggs due to my PCOS, but with hormones they grow fine)
After ovulation test was positive I got IUI +/- 36 hours afterwards.

So pretty much the same as @zoefer just less BW and no trigger shot.

GL on your journey, and do join a group. You get so much support out of them!

  • Hi and welcome! Sorry you have to be here :(. I am in the TWW of my first IUI so I can give you a little insight into my personal first go of it! (we have unexplained IF) I did 3 rounds of Clomid 50 mg with no luck with my ob. When I went to my RE he wanted us to do IUI with Clomid. So I went in for a baseline US on day 3, then did 50mg Clomid days 5-9. I went in again on day 11 and had 2 mature follies, with another one close behind so they made me trigger with ovidrel that evening and IUI was on day 13. I've been on Prometrium 2x per day since the IUI. They did mention that if my bloodwork showed I was surging on my own that I wouldn't need ovidrel, but due to the risk of multiples my doctor wanted me to go ahead and trigger. GL!! Hoping for good results for you!
