Getting a Second Opinion

Ugh not very happy with the local reproductive specialist in the area. Did a check on my dh and he is fine. He confirmed what I already new about my PCOS. Was not happy to have me try Clomid. That did not work, and he wont give me any other options besides IVF. I understand at some point we will have to cross that bridge but I feel like there's still other options out there for me possibly to try. Maybe Clomid or Ferema with injections or something. He really made me feel like I had to do IVF thru him. He even went as far to say do you want to get pregnant or not. You can try a payment plan if you have good credit. Who in the heck says that to a woman who is struggling to have a child. So I faxed in my info to IVF Michigan to have them send my info to a new RE in Lake Orion Michigan. Her name is Carole Kowalczyk or her PA Alexa Karbowski? They seem very nice, and their PA runs a group for PCOS people. Any Michigan ladies out there hear of her? I really wish I would have listened when other people said they were not fans of Dr Shamma. I just felt like he just wanted money out of us.

    WOOOWW!!! no. Just NO!

We have low morphology and I have PCOS and our RE is very optimistic that IUI would work for us. She even has high hopes that a monitored cycle would work because even though DH's morphology is low his count "makes up for it". Our RE is ok with Clomid, but said that in PCOS patients Femara had better response, and then there are some PCOS patients that may have to do injectable medications. She was very willing to let us try things we were comfortable with and never pushed anything on us. Unless you have MFI and/or low ovarian reserve, IVF doesn't have to be your only choice. Most RE's that I've heard of would want you to try at least 1 monitored cycle and 1 IUI before considering IVF. If anything, to see how you respond to different medications and how many eggs you produce and how your lining reacts etc.,....that RE sounds horrid!

  • Hi, mackenzi! This is so awful docs might be so insensitive!! I'm really frustrated with the fact you've described us. I think people working in this area should be more understanding, kind and warm-hearted as they are here to help women in need. It really sounds like the doc wanted to loom your money not paying much attention to the process itself..Poor thing you are! But This is so great you've decided to change experts and get another point of view. This definitely will put you at ease, I'm sure. There are too many experts you shouldn't feel like you have the last hope with that doc Sh, and you don't and this makes me happy ;)In such  a way we show we can choose from dozens, so let them be more sensitive and professional with us!!
I hope your next step will be successful, dear. As for other options I'm not a good adviser even being in the case of endo and PCOS. We had been struggling for 6 years. Had totally unsuccessful surgery which led to left ovary scarring. After it my eggs couldn't mature and we had to turn to donor eggs - 5 att program performed in Ukrainian Biotexcom. By the way, thankfully people there were amazing to us!!
Wish you all the best in the world. May your dreams come true very soon Xx
