TTC After a Loss

Let's talk about cysts

Has anyone gotten cysts either before or after loss? I'm pretty sure that is what's going on with me because I'm having pain on my left ovary that radiates to my groin. Also my temp refuses to rise- it's still below 97. From what Ive read in TCOYF, it sounds like follicular cysts, which would match up with previous ultrasounds that show cysts on my ovaries.

If you get them, does your AF come earlier or later? Were they worse after miscarriage? What can you do to balance out your hormones to prevent them next cycle??

Re: Let's talk about cysts

  • I have gotten cysts before (I am only a few weeks post-loss, so not much experience after...hope they're not worse!).  I actually had a cyst going into the cycle where we conceived.  My RE was not concerned about it affecting things because it was not releasing estrogen (which he knew from my bloodwork, and he saw the cyst on ultrasound).  Not sure if that's helpful.

Perhaps you could try acupuncture and diet changes (my acupuncturist promotes a Traditional Chinese Medicine diet to balance hormones and boost fertility), if you wanted to do something.

  • I found out I had a cyst on my left ovary on CD3 this cycle. Found out the hard way because it burst and the pain was intense. I had never suspected a cyst before my miscarriages, and I'm not sure how long it had been there....but I find it a coincidence that it made its presence known 2 months after my last miscarriage.

I had an ultrasound last week, and have an appointment with an OB in April to do more follow up. But the pain left as quickly as it came so nothing going on with me now....it was so strange.
I seem to have ovulated normally about 2 weeks after that episode, so right on time.
As well, I usually have fairly regular periods and okay cycle lengths (32-34 ish days), so I am hoping this was just a one time thing caused by the hormonal mess of two miscarriages. With the hormonal shift of being on my period, I guess that's when it chose to burst.

Take care of yourself, cysts can be painful buggers and if it bursts it may catch you off guard (although I would consider it a good thing if a painful cyst burst...that's how I felt about it anyways, gone just like that).

  • Thank you @megsbrock and @BrightenMySky I'm still not sure what's going on. I had a very tiny amount of blood yesterday, and quite a bit of cramping yesterday, and my very first positive OPK today. Could I actually be ovulating and my ovaries are hurting because they have been waiting so long? Or did my cyst burst and cause an LH surge? I'm so confused. My body is not doing normal things.
  • The cyst could have burst because of the LH surge? That would be my guess.

  • Not sure if this will be helpful at all, but I had a cyst at my 12 week ultrasound with DS.  It didn't effect my pregnancy with him at all.  I also had one on an ultrasound I had done last year but my doc wasn't concerned about it because it was small and my cycles were ok at the time.  I do feel I have had a little more pain since miscarriage.  Don't have any wisdom regrading evening out hormones to help with pain though.
