Nighttime sleep discouraged

Hello my LO is 11 weeks old and I feel like his sleep at night is not improving at all! He is waking every 2 1/2 - 3 hours to eat. Most places I read that at his age most babies sleep 4-6 hours a night... I am trying everything under the sun and working on putting him down drowsy (still not doing it). I have a decent schedule, great night routine, push for good naps, eats great!, white noise, try not yo overstimulate, dark quiet room ect... It's really starting to take a toll on me and my husband. I think we expected to see some improvement by now .. Not expecting the whole night but maybe 4 hours at least.. Anyone else feeling like this..

  • First, if you want some comparison: my DS is waking every 2-3 hours every night to eat too and is 13 weeks old today.
Second, every baby is different and will do what they do in regards to sleeping through the night.
Third, don't expect. That's what's getting you so upset. Stop comparing your baby to what you read.
Yep, this. I know it's probably not encouraging or helpful at all, but if you're really doing everything humanly possible, then LO may simply just not be ready to sleep longer stretches. It'll happen, I promise.

It really helps with having zero expectations with sleep. LO has seriously hated napping during the day lately and I've just given up on a nap that will last longer than 20 mins. It's been less stressful since.

  • My LO used to sleep great through the night only waking once! Now for the past week he has been waking every 2 hours and he is 12 weeks! I don't know why the change.. I'm hoping he goes back to his old sleep ways soon! This mama is tired!
  • My pediatrician is still pushing me to wake my 10 week old up every 3 hours through the night even though is weight gain is great and he's completely healthy. (However I'm going against my pedis wishing and letting him sleep) but just throwing it in there that many babies at this age still wake up every 3 hours and some doctors recommend they continue to eat every 3 hours at this age. I know it's hard but you're not alone! My niece are every 3 hours until she was 9 months old (she was always underweight and hopefully this will not happen to you!) but just as everyone is saying every baby is different and has their own schedule

  • My LO is 11 weeks, and for a few weeks she was sleeping a good 6-7 hour stretch every night. Just when my milk supply adjusted to the 6-7 hour stretches, she started waking up every 2-3 hours again. Most of the time I feed her and maybe change her diaper, then put her right back to bed. But last week she started teething, and now she's waking up in pain and it's taking over an hour to get her back to sleep each time. Then I'm lucky if she sleeps for 2 hours- it's usually only about 1 hour. I'm exhausted!
  • Thanks everyone for the response... That's been my theme since pregnancy... Nothing's been as expected but has still been perfect so I do need to take a deep breath and accept just going with the flow... I have an amazing healthy  happy little boy and I will sleep again...I just need to be thankful and enjoy.
  • With regards to teething... Are you sure that's what it is? I've seen some of the symptoms of teething such as drooling, chewing on things including my nipple when eating and not eating as well as before and a bit more restless at night even after eating similar to the description above minus crying with pain. Although I know they say it can start at 3 months I still feel that's really early...
  • Teething can begin at that time for sure. It's normal for a baby to wake every three hours, it's actually more common than them sleeping through the night ( which is considered to be 5 hours for a babe). How long is the feed before bed? Sometimes my babe cluster feeds and then she will sleep longer but not always
  • What is he sleeping on or in? Ever since we bought the woombie for my LO she sleeps pretty much through the night. Before we bought that swaddle she was waking up every few hours and hard to put to sleep
