Feeling disgusted

I'm at the end of my first iui cycle. Probably triggering at the end of this week. I have a recent PCOS diagnosis and my follicles are all over the place. At first they weren't growing fast enough and now there are 2 doing decent. I got upset and come to terms with the fact I most likely will move it IVF if this iui doesn't work. I was coming to terms with this and then I got a call that I had an abnormal Pap smear. I've had them in the past, but it just one more thing to worry about. Has anyone else had abnormal Pap smears while going through this process? Of course I'm thinking the worst.

Hi @mamph25, sorry to hear about another setback.

Pap results can mean a number of things, so don't panic. Sometimes, this is just because of a hard-to-read sample or because of another condition (like a recent yeast infection) that makes the results unclear.

Simply having the HPV virus in your system shouldn't impact your pregnancy in most cases and your baby won't contract it.
However you might want to wait TTC after you have had a biopsy (should you need a biopsy) as this might lead to miscarriage.

I went through a lot for 4 years ago. Freezing of cervix, biopsy and lasering and I have regular check-ups now. Before I started my journey with my clinic I got tested again, to meek sure I was good to go.

Yeah, I've had abnormal ones in the past, just annoying to get getting then.

So sorry @Mamph25. I've had a number of abnormal paps in the past and have tested positive for high risk HPV but it's never caused any problems. They always do the colposcopy right after and it shows nothing. My OBGYN told me at my last annual that new regulations are saying to only do paps every 3 years now, even with a history of abnormal pap because it's so rare that the colposcopy even shows any problems and it often resolves itself. So I really wouldn't panic about it, and just follow your doctors' recommendations.

We just had a 2nd failed IUI and decided to move on to IVF, so I understand the difficulty of coming to terms with that as well. Best of luck to you!

I'm sorry to hear that. Chances are, if you do move on to IVF, you will have a cycle or two to prep, which is more than enough time to get a colposcopy, and chances are, you won't have any trouble. My doctor required a down cycle so I could get the saline sono (which she didn't want to do while also doing IUI, etc.), a prerequisite for IVF at my clinic.

I had mild/moderate dysplasia in my cervix for several years. I had two exams a year, and once a year I would get a colposcopy (which always led to a yeast infection) and basically my doc was just very passive, we were just "watching". I got new insurance and had to change doctors. My very first appointment with my new doc, he did a TCA chemical peel because he said that often the pre-cancerous cells are just on the surface, so if we can peel that away then often they won't come back. That was three years ago and I have been clear since then. I did have one abnormal pap a year or two ago, but I had BV so they weren't worried, and the next time it was clean. It's amazing how easily our bodies can get an imbalance and with all the hormones we are on it wouldn't surprise me if you had a little infection that caused an abnormal rating. Try not to dwell too much. My mantra lately has been "there's nothing to worry about until there's something to worry about." FX and prayers for you!

I just recently had a pap done last month for my yearly. I had a yeast infection and abnormal ph. Never had this happen before I say it's cause of the medications. I'm on my sixth iui and I find out if I'm pregnant or not tomorrow.
