Asking for prayers please!

OMG I can't wrap my head around this, I suspect I may have skin cancer. I very stupidly used tanning beds a few times several years ago. I did this topless and almost immediately noticed new moles around my breasts. They became odd shaped so had them checked by a dermatologist who said they were fine. This was like 3 years ago. They slowly started changing shape some more but I got sidetracked with my wedding then buying a house and getting pregnant. And now maybe due to BF they've started changing quite rapidly and some are scabbing. I googled of course and it looks just like melanoma (listed as deadliest skin cancer). I called a dermatologist office in my new area and the earliest appointment is Thurs. I don't want to tell my family to avoid worrying them unnecessarily if it's nothing. I am panicking and have to keep it to myself for two whole days. I can't help thinking how stupid I am for tanning in the first place then for not getting checked annually. I cannot even fathom not being there to watch my beautiful baby girl grow up. I'm bawling my eyes out as I type this. Anyone have any knowledge of this or just please send prayers my way. My name is Mayra.

    Anniversary
  • I hope everything is okay!  I was worried about a mole that popped up on my nose a few years ago.  I saw a dermatologist and everything checked out just fine.  Changes happen as we age.  Not to mention that pregnancy hormones can do all sorts of crazy things to our bodies.   We will be thinking of you!
  • Prayers for you!!!!

I need to see a dermatologist as well. I had random brown spots pop up all over my back after DD was born!!

  • Sending thoughts and prayers. A few people in my family have dealt with melanoma. Especially when caught early the prognosis doesn't seem so grim as it used to be. My aunt had it on her shoulder, had it removed and now is checked every six months but so far so good and that was several years ago. My grandfather just had it removed from his nose for the third time in 10 years, a little bit of scarring but so far so good.

It might also just be a mole and this is always the hope. I happen to be riddled with moles, constantly getting more, they change I get them checked and they're perfectly benign. Hoping for the best outcome for you.
  • Praying for you, keep us updated. I too was stupid and tanned EVERYDAY for 2 years straight.... My stomach has a bunch that showed up they've changed quite a bit also and some have rings around them which I heard is a number one sign. I keep telling myself to make an appointment to get checked out but I keep slacking to take care of other things. I'm taking this post as a sign I need to get checked and some removed. Calling tomorrow!
  • Don't beat yourself up over this. Hopefully this will just be a lesson learned to not tan anymore and your doctor can remove the moles. I used to fake bake a lot and got a mole on my lip that had to be removed. I never tanned again after that. Thoughts and prayers to you!
  • Sending lots of prayers. Like said above, you don't have a diagnosis yet and even if it is the worst case, lots of people heal well from melanoma. You're probably going to get check-ups either way every 6 months. I do just because I have very fair skin. Good luck and keep us updated!
  • Praying for you and your family.  Let us know what happens!
  • Sending well wishes and prayers your way. Please try not to worry and keep us updated.
  • First of all, so many thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Second, I'm not going to tell you "it might not be" or anything like that, because I just don't know. What I will tell you is this: this moment right now is probably the worst. The not knowing, going around in your mind, and worst-case-scenario-making is probably much worse than what you'll discover.

Two weeks before our girls were born, we discovered my husband had a large brain tumor. One week before they were born, he had a craniotomy to remove it. Since then we've learned it's a pretty horrible diagnosis and slightly terrifying prognosis. But I am dead serious when I say that the first few weeks of not knowing and guessing were the most terrifying weeks of my life. All I could think about was my husband not being around for his girls and losing my soul mate. But now that we know what it is, he's in treatment, and we're actively battling the tumor, nothing seems nearly as bleak.

I say all that to say this: your mind is making it worse than it is!! If it is cancer (and I pray it isn't), early detection is everything. You are doing exactly the right thing by getting checked quickly. You will make it through whatever it is and be a stronger mom on the other side.

Also, DO NOT GOOGLE!!! Google says my husband might only live another year, but all our medical indicators say that isn't true at all. So please don't Google!!!!
  • Thank you, you girls are amazing! I will update after my appointment.
@candace4erich Keep strong momma, I'll be praying for your family as well.
  • Thoughts & prayers your way so glad you're getting checked out :)
  • You and your family are in my thoughts.  Please let us know how your visit goes and try to stay off of google! (Easier said than done... I know.)  My dad had melanoma removed and made a full recovery. I have had my own dermatological scares and totally understand the panic and fear of seeing moles change. That being said, science and modern medicine are pretty amazing.
  • Prayers for you,  but I will share what my OB told me,  Google didn't go to medical school.
I have several moles that looked sketchy a few years ago and they were benign. It's important to get checked though because I had one on my tush that had to be removed. It's a quick procedure. Keep us updated.
  • Good luck at your appt today!!
  • Good luck today! I've had a few pre cancerous moles, so I get it. The important thing is that you are getting it checked out now, so good for you for doing that.

  • I'm so glad you had them checked out. I had a similar situation while I was pregnant. It turned out to be nothing, but Google most certainly fanned the flames of my histeria. I'll tell you what my doctor told me. He said melanoma generally isn't caused by sun exposure as much as other types of less deadly skin cancers. My point is that you shouldn't beat yourself up about tanning. You don't do it now and what's passed is past. We all made questionable choices at one point or another.
