Let's Talk Belly Buttons!

So I'm guessing this is very "First Time Mom" of me, but I am kind of obsessed with my belly button. Or maybe I should say I am grossed out? Either way, I can't stop watching it. I'm 23.5 weeks and my innie is almost flat. The weird part though? When I pull myself up from a laying position, I can actually see it (and the muscular ring around it) bulge out! Can anyone else relate to this?! It scared me half to death yesterday, but there's no pain so I'm thinking this is normal?

So what about you? What's your belly button up to these days?

Re: Let's Talk Belly Buttons!

  • I'm freaked out by belly buttons! I can't touch mine or have it touched or watch anyone touch their own belly button. I'm a weirdo! With that being said I'm obsessed with looking at my belly button because it's getting to be more flat and I'm freaking out about it popping out and rubbing on my clothes! Maybe it won't be as bad as I'm imagining but everyone that knows me knows how worried I am about this!!

  • I'm loving mine. It's half innie half outie right now. I just like seeing the changes happen. FTM! And yes, when I use my abs to sit up it gets freaky too.

I have an old belly button piercing hole. Half is outside my belly button, the other half is inside. I'm obsessed with watching the half on the inside slowly inching outward. Soon I'll have two piercing holes on the outside and it is freaking me ouuuut.

I have a pretty deep belly button so I don't know if it'll go totally flat or pop out. If it doesn't that is 100% okay with me.
  • My innie is also getting shallower and shallower and it's weirding me out a bit too but it's a great indicator of how much my belly is actually growing.  I also had a super deep belly button pre-pregnancy so I have no idea how it'll end up looking over the next few months but I'm hoping it doesn't pop out and just goes flat.  Popping out might be a bit too much for me to handle.
  • @ahernandez16 and @sgoldberg247, I have a really deep belly button, and it never went all the way flat with my first.

  • I have a small belly button and it never popped out or went flat in my last pregnancy even when I measured 38 weeks. It hasn't popped or went flat this time yet and im thinking it won't. I'm guessing it's all in the muscle structure and how the belly button is formed.
  • Mine is more flat than innie. It feels very silky, which is strange. Every time I touch it my DH freaks out. He's not the biggest belly button fan. He asked the midwife if my belly button would pop out and she poked around at it and said she didn't think it would.
  • @Sgoldberg247 & @ahernandez16 Same. I'm kind of obsessed with watching it get shallower...it's freaking me out.

  • Mine is close to flat, and I also have the muscular ring prominence. From what others have told me, it's very normal.
  • My belly button must be never ending because with DS it remained an innie until the last day with no end in sight. It was stretched out with a tiny pinprick hole but I never could find the end. Same seems to be happening this time.

  • Mine has been an outtie for weeks now. I actually don't mind it but hate the comments I get from it. People are always commenting on it. I remember with my 2nd DS a guy came up and said 'oh I see you have three arms' I could have punched him
  • My belly button is getting shallow. I have a scar half in and half outside my belly button from having to laparoscopies and it is stretching out and almost totally on the outside.

  • My innie has completely popped out and it's probably the weirdest thing ever.  The skin is soft and mushy. Gross.  I did get a pregnancy belly button ring so the hole won't close but once my belly button popped I got so grossed out I just removed the ring all together.  I'm think a 15 year old piercing won't close... I hope ;-)
  • Mine stayed an innie the entire time with my son. It's just really deep and never ending haha, I literally have never seen the end of it. But I do have an old belly button piercing that looks weird. Also I got stretch marks around the piercing due to the scar tissue so it doesn't stretch as well. That looks terrible. It's hard to notice though thank God because it looks ridiculous
  • Mine looks the same as it always has. I did have a small scar right above my belly button tho that has like doubled in size and feels really gross from where my belly button ring ripped out years ago.
  • I am kinda hoping for an outie! I noticed it's a little closer to the surface than before, but my belly button is pretty deep, so I don't think it's going to pop out.

I have one of those scars, where my belly ring literally fell out! My body rejected it.

  • Mine looks exactly the same at 26w. Still "inny". I have a belly button ring too and I have NO idea how to get it out. Got it 10 years ago and have no idea how to get the ball off the ring and might have to go ask a piercing place to take it out. Mine is an actual ring with ball closure. And it doesn't seem to screw off...

  • You have had the same belly ring in the whole time?
  • Mine is getting flat. It never popped out with my first two, so I don't think it's going to this time either.

Apparently my belly button is really weird. I had a complete innie before pregnancy and mine started popping out at 13 weeks before I even started showing (wtf??). Now it's completely out. I can see both holes from my old piercing! It doesn't gross me out or bother me, but it does stick out in all of my shirts and I get unwanted comments (OMG your belly button is so cute! OMG does that gross you out?? OMG that means you're going to get huge!) Please note the OMGs were added for dramatic effect :)

  • I'm super jealous of all you who may get to keep your innies! I'm not bothered by anyone else's belly button, but my own just creeps me out! It's the muscle-flexing bulge that really pushes me over the edge. Ick!

  • Mine has fully popped out now, I think it was totally out a few weeks ago, I first noticed it around 23 weeks.  I guess it will get flatter the bigger I get now?  I can't remember from the last time.  DS loves trying to pinch it, which skeeves me out.  Don't worry, though, it will totally go back to normal after delivery.
  • FYI, those of you experiencing the muscle bulge thing...two of my friends had that and they told me that means your abs separated. You should NOT "flex" the muscle or whatever--don't use your abs to sit up, use your arms or something. That's not good for your abs if they have separated.
  • I feel like I don't have any abs anymore. The belly button cannot decide whether it wants to be in or out so it just kind of hangs out in the middle.
