Swimsuit season... For the babies

I don't even want to think about putting a swim suit on this post-baby body.

Re: Swimsuit season... For the babies

  • The rest didn't post!!!!!

i have been shopping for a swimsuit for DD who got my fair complexion. These are two I am considering. (The flower one is by RuffleButts and the full coverage one is by Coolibar).

Any one else swim suit shopping??

  • Yes! I bought DD an adorable swimsuit yesterday at Target. I looked a few places and they had the cutest (and cheapest!) options. I can't wait to take her to the pool and the beach!
  • I bought one from Disney store. We are going to Disney World soon so I thought it would be perfect.
  • I just used a rash guard shirt and swim diaper for DD1 up til 2.5yo when she asked for a suit "like mommy" so she got a navy tankini to match my one piece. We have a My Swim Baby diaper with ruffles on the bum and a Carter's swim shirt for LO this summer.

  • My kid is growing so fast I can't predict her size for the summer.  It's not really pool weather here til end of June so I'll wait.  I was hoping she'd fit into the stash I have from the other two.  I may have every siZe at this point, lol.  I did notice Target has a full selection out right now!

  • This may sound dumb but I'm a FTM and how do you deal with poop accidents when LO is in a swimsuit?

Most pools require they wear swim diapers, which I guess are supposed to keep everything contained! FTM so I've never used them before, but we'll be going on a beach vaca in three months and will be trying them out then!

I plan to get baby one of those SPF long-sleeved swim shirts and long shorts so less of his skin is exposed to the sun.
  • @laur3877 I can't believe you are in a two piece!! Awesome job mama!:)
  • @jen83mn I want to get a long sleeve top and long bottoms too. I'm pretty pale and so is DS. I guess I'll have to try out swum diapers. Should be interesting haha
  • I'm doing full coverage sleeves and shorts! Kinda like a scuba suit but shorts. Lol.

They are "supposed" to contain the poop. It all depends on how much poop lol. Swimmers are not great diapers since they don't absorb too well. But like you said, most pools require them. DS had poop explosions a couple of times but luckily not actually in the water.

My mom got DD a swimsuit from the Disney store before she was born. It's a one piece that has Thumper on it and is sooo cute. It's still a little big but we have used it in the pool. We will be vacationing this summer so I will probably get her something else that covers her skin a little more to protect her from the sun. DH and I don't burn and neither does DS but that doesn't mean I let my kids fry haha.
  • @cmommy13 I recommend a reusable swim diaper. Swimmers don't absorb pee anyway, and they don't contain poop very well. I've used Bummis Swimmi, My Swim Baby and applecheeks brand reusables, and they all worked perfectly to contain poop, even explosive EBF poop. They rinse off in the sink, then can be machine washed.

  • My experience with swimsuits (for girls) is that they run super small!!! I impulse bought a 12 months size one, so cute, and when she started swimming lessons at 6 months it was nowhere near fitting! (Carters brand, and she was always high percentile for weight).
So I also went to reusable swim diapers and a rash guard. I liked honest brand reusable swim diapers.

BIG HINT! Never travel in a swim diaper. Always put it on when you get to where you're swimming and change out of it before you leave. I walked to the pool once and picked DD1 up on my hip, and yes, the pee was contained. Until against my hip squished it out. All over me ;-)
  • Zulily had a sale for iplay swimsuits a few weeks ago so we stocked up. LO is starting swim lessons next week, and the swim school requires the reusable type of swim diapers. Iplay makes them built into the suit and I think they are super cute.

  • Yes, girls bathing suits run really small for some reason. I usually have to size up 1 or 2 sizes. As for swim diapers we use reusable. As pp said they don't contain pee so I'll get baby ready at home and lotioned up then put a real diaper over the swim diaper for the car ride then take the real diaper off when you get to the pool and since it's over top you don't have to take the suit off.

  • We used swim diapers once with LO and she pooped in the pool. Yikes! Anyways, it was all contained & not nearly as messy to clean as I thought it would be!
  • I just got my LOs swimsuit from Costco. $16 for the shorts, shirt and hat, all with uv 50 protection.

  • @wilcoxev - I would munch those arms!!
