What do w/ $50 gift to baby?

I was given $50 for my daughter.  We put a way a tiny amount in a college fund for her, but I want to do something different with this $50 gift and other cash gifts that come her way.  Any thoughts on what to do? 

Savings Bond? (% rates are really low right now). Open a bank account (Doesn't seem right, money will just sit there and inflation will make the money worthless), Stock (Seems too little months to get a stock share).

    We opened a savings account. When it accrued 1000 we bought a CD. There doesn't seem to be much to do with 50 alone! Maybe open a money market account?

    My fiancé and I decided to put any monetary gifts given to our daughter aside in an envelope while she's still an infant and then put them towards activities and/or classes when she's a bit older. There's a pool nearby our house that starts swimming lessons for babies at 6 months (she's just over 3 months now) and a dance studio in the neighborhood that starts toddler classes at 2 years. We were already interested in looking into these activities for her and I like the idea of being able to tell people that she's using their gifts for activities that she hopefully enjoys.
