NICU Comments?!

Is anyone else getting a lot of questions and assumptions that just because you're having multiples, that your babies will automatically spend time in the NICU? This is happening to me a lot and it really bothers me! I try to be polite and explain that just because it's twins, it doesn't automatically mean they'll need NICU time, but it's getting really hard to keep saying that politely. Anyone else?

    I think I had the opposite problem. People didn't seem to realize I'd need a section (triplets) or when they did arrive early, I had visitors that thought they would come up to visit and get to see/hold them in my room.

    Two years, two losses and three IUIs...

    We are having TRIPLETS!

    It was really just my mother that assumed my babies would be born very early. She knew one set of twins that had to spend a lot of time in the NICU and when I got to around 30 weeks she was all "any day now!" She refused to accept that there are a lot of factors at play - di/di twins (vs mo/di or mo/mo), conceived naturally, no complications, no history of preterm labour, etc. Of course nothing is certain and even with everything in our favour anything could have happened, but I was induced at 37w2d and delivered two very healthy girls, no NICU time, with just a bit of jaundice for twin B. And I got to say a big "I told you so" to my mom.

    I also had a lot of people assume they'd automatically be a c-section at like 35 weeks... what? I delivered vaginally, because they were both head down and ready to go!

    I'm sorry you're dealing with this.
    I always assumed mine would end up in the nicu because my pregnancy was filled with complications, so I'd tell people we expected a nicu stay. We even made sure the hospital we wanted to deliver at had a great nicu before we decided on an ob. So I kind of had the same thing as @Kelley421 .

    All I can say is get used to having to be polite with people's comments and questions. My twins are only 7 weeks and I'm already sick of the "are they twins" question. Also, the "are they identical" after hearing one is a girl and one is a boy... sigh.

    @Theliops even though it was annoying. You're mother probably just wanted you prepared for the worst so you weren't blindsided

    The weird, silly, ignorant and sometimes very rude questions will pretty much continue the rest of your life! 90 percent of the time it is really just that people are uneducated about twin stuff. Annoying for sure especially when you are asked the same questions over and over. Some days I am up for explaining and other days I roll my eyes and walk away.    As for nicu I was like previous poster who had people say me they were gonna come in my room and hold my babies right after my csection... Lol didn't happen!

    Me DX: Hashimotos,Hypothyroid, DOR, MTHFR,  DH: normal

     IUI #1-#4 BFNs and a few cancelled cycles in the mix.
    - poor responder
    ***Suprise BFP on 6/13/13. Natural MC @6wks 3days
    IVF#1 and 2- Cancelled due to no response on max stimms
    FET 5/20- BFP
    1st Beta- 641
    2nd beta- 2166
    Sono- TWINS!!!!
    Two Boys! Born January 2015 @36 weeks.  Healthy and no NICU!  So blessed!

    I would appreciate the comments to get you in the right frame of mind. It is a very real possibility. My second pregnancy was triplets.. We knew we would be in the NICU.. And we were. They were released between 6 and 8 weeks.
    March 2011: Off Nuva, cycle back to "normal" for me: No periods since 15 years old. June 2011:Provera&50 mg Clomid; Progesterone:0.7 July 2011:Provera&100mg Clomid; Progesterone:3.29 Met with RE:No Clomid response, begin injectables Sep 5 mg Letrozole and Ovidrel in the interim month. Cut out running (was a distance-runner), cycling, eliptical. Restricted to weight-training, walking, pilates. Brain MRI normal. Being physically over-stressed is the reason the body stopped producing prog. Late Sep 2011: Menopur, Ovidrel,& IUI (10.10.11):BFN-Great injectable response: 2 mature, 6 near mature, many smaller; Problem: 9 cysts! Dr: IUI too uncontrolled for number of viable eggs & age. On to IVF! IVF ER 12.6: 37 mature eggs, 27 fertilized, froze all to avoid overstimulation; FET 1.22 (2 Grade 1)=BFN; FET 2.22 (3 Grade 2)=BFP! Beta 10dp3dt=291; 12dp3dt=644; HB 3.26!! 174 bpm: Vanishing twin almost completely absorbed 10wks Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
