Food poisoning?

i was just wondering if anyone else has had food poisoning this late in the game? I got sick several times last night but can't think of anything I would have eaten to trigger such a reaction. I do have a call into the ob but haven't heard back yet. I was mostly wondering if anyone who's had this if they want you to come in - my DH is out of town so I don't know what I would do with DD. Perfect timing.

Re: Food poisoning?

  • I had it!!! Like, SEVERE! vomiting and diarrhea. It was awful. I kept testing my skin elasticity and it always bounced right back so I never went in. I did ice chips when I could as water was really hard. Gatorade or pedialyte is great too. Feel better!!!

  • It honestly depends on your hydration. When I had severe food poisoning it was accompanied by a 102 fever, something that called for a trip in regardless. I needed 3 IV bags and no amount of Gatorade or drinking water was going to achieve that because everything came right back up. Good luck and I hope you feel better!
  • Try and keep as hydrated as possible, ice chips if actual fluids wil not stay down. Listen to your body, if you think you need to be seen in the ER, go! I hope you have a mild case.
  • Thanks ladies, right now I am at least able to keep fluids in but the thought of eating is really unpleasant. I'm going to head out after dd (and hopefully me too!) catch a nap for Gatorade and some soup. Man it's amazing how your body shuts down being 34 weeks pregnant, almost no sleep, and trying to kick a bug out of your immune system. Luckily dd is being so sweet to her mom and is content doing quiet activities and watching a little extra Elmo.

  • I had a severe food borne illness, which DH got 3 days later and was hospitalized for. I couldn't walk, shower on my own, was puking and shitting at the same time... Oh man it was AWFUL. If you have somebody who can stay with you and you feel like you are able to hydrate, then you may be able to ride it out. But if you can't keep fluids down and have the insurance for it, having IV electrolytes really helps a ton.
  • From Monday to Wednesday I thought I might have had food poisoning too.  Like, only liquids came out of me, and uh, violently.  I just kept drinking lots and lots of water to combat dehydration. I was also getting really painful period-like cramps Tuesday night. Then Wednesday morning I decided to try and throw up and not long after I did (and it was a lot, mostly undigested food from the morning before), I started feeling totally better.

I just hit 35 weeks yesterday and it seems as though these feelings coincided with my belly dropping... not sure if her moving south maybe screwed with my intestines and digestive process?  There wasn't anything unusual that I had eaten to trigger those reactions.  I felt awesome by Thursday. I hope you'll feel better soon, as well!
  • Wow so glad to see this post and know I am not the only one not feeling the best.  I woke up at 3AM on the 28th not feeling good, but could not pin point what was wrong.  Stomach was upset and had some cramping going on.  Was not sure if the cramps which were low in the pelvic area were braxton hick or contractions or just an upset stomach.  Just felt wiped out and was only able to lay on the couch and try to sleep.  Did not feel like eating or anything, finally had some chicken soup around 3PM.  Started getting the runs a couple of hours later and then was throwing up.  Felt awful and the baby was kicking so hard I was not sure what was going on.  It was a rough night for sure and was so worried about the baby being ok during all of this, but I have felt her kick so hoping all is ok.  Trying to keep some water down this morning and had a piece of toast.  Not sure if it was food poisoning, a stomach bug or something else, but it was awful.
