FWPF! (And discussion to possibly change the name?) 2/26

Hey everyone,

So this is the First World Problems thread where we can vent about our otherwise insignificant or "silly" problems. Some people had voiced dislike of the thread and what it represents in terms of "First World" and weren't too keen on the humor of it. I, in no way, want to offend anyone and was wondering if we should take this into account. Maybe the title of the thread could be changed? "Petty Complaint Friday" "Silly Complaint Friday" or something like that? I don't know how much of a difference it would make but maybe it'll make others feel more comfortable with seeing this in their weekly feed. Let me know what you all think and I'll honor what the majority wants!

Mine for today is: DH and I went to Target yesterday and got sucked into the vortex. $250 later we left and I regretted not buying this cute little pink hat for DD that I saw in the dollar section when I first walked in. I remember thinking, "I'm NOT buying that hat because I'm only going to get essentials." I'm such a moron.

  • I'm lucky to have a huge jet tub in our master bathroom and DH even installed a tv in there a few years ago. I love taking baths but rarely use the jets. Well last night I turned them on and all this gross black junk shot out of them. Ew

That's a good one! Much better with the alliteration, says the English teacher  ;)

  • Mine  problem is my children  won't stop bickering today and it's driving  me up the wall.  I just  wish occasionally  when I'm feeling really crappy they could just play nicely together.
  • Lol. My Petty Complaint is about a tub too.

Hubby and I went to a nice hotel on our wedding night and got bumped to the presidential suite. We went back on our 1 year anniversary and they did it again. I wrote a long, sweet letter to the manager thanking him and his staff, telling him that I rave about the hotel to everyone, and telling him that we would be there every year for our anniversary. He responded and promised that he would always try and save the presidential suite for us. Well I booked our reservation today (cause I know I'll forget) and then realized that I won't be able to use the hot tub in the suite this year! I started crying. Lol

I would agree with this. I know I'm kind of a lone wolf but since I'm technically living in what people would call a "third world" country I can't really contribute to "FWP"

  • I love Petty Problems. I totally get the phrase First World Problems when we're using it about ourselves/our own problems, but I've seen it used by people in a manner that negates the validity of other people's very real feelings and experiences and that is not okay and has kind of ruined the phrase for me.

@kmolleltz I completely understand and I think this solidifies for me that a change is warranted because I certainly  would want you and others to participate! We all have "Petty Problems". Perhaps this can be the new name for the thread then

I just wanted to add that I carried this title over from my last Bump birth group  and hadn't thought of the implications of it so I think this title change is a good one!

@krzyriver I'm sad for you. What is the rule with pregnant women and hot tubs, again? You can't use them throughout the pregnancy because of the temperature right?

  • I'm all for the name change. Petty Problems or something along those lines is a better idea. Thanks for being open to changing it.

  • I know it's early, but SO and I have started to plan our babymoon for Labor Day weekend in September.  Like all you ladies with hot tub problems, I have one too.  The airbnb we are planning to rent has a hot tub on the deck, right ON the lake.  Will I get to use it?  No.  Guess I'll have to settle for admiring the view....not in a hot tub, and with no wine glass in hand!

oooooh Tanzania, @kmolleltz !  What are you doing there?  In my head, you run a fabulous luxury safari... Canvas tents, persian rugs, champagne at your beck and call, baby elephants to play with....  Ngorongoro Crater is on my bucket list!

Yeah, you can't do hot tubs or saunas because it raises your body temperature. You can take baths if you keep the water temperature cool enough that it doesn't warm you up but a) What's the point of that? :D  and b) I wouldn't have any idea how warm to make it so I'd be paranoid the whole time. Lol

  • @kmolleltz , what you do is far more valuable than running luxury safaris. :)  47 children under 5!  You have lots of babies to care for over there. :)  Your story reminds me of the CNN Hero(ine) that won last year's award.  The world needs more people like you!

    awwww
well thankfully we also have an awesome Tanzanian staff as well!

maybe this belongs in FFFC, but I definitely take hot baths nearly every night. It's the only thing that makes me feel good. I did it last pregnancy too. It's not scalding, but definitely hot water.

haha no nothing of the sort. I've been living here for about 2.5 years and I work with a home for orphaned and abandoned infants and toddlers. We are currently caring for 47 children under 5. Along the way I met this guy who is now DH ;) so we'll be here for as far as I can see (if not forever)

Wow @kmolletz that is so cool (and heartbreaking at the same time, I'm sure). Where are you originally from?

yeah absolutely. What's incredible is being able to be part of their forever story, whether they are reunited with family or adopted.

I grew up north of Boston but was living in Minnesota prior to moving here.

  • The store was out of two things I wanted today: giant underwear (specific size - I already have one pack) and a six-pack of sparkling cider. Like, can't they keep their stock up? =( I feel they shouldn't be completely out of these things because I can't see there being some sort of giant run on either.

  • I need to do laundry bad. Most of my jackets are fitting too snug these days. The few comfy jackets that fit me are dirty. Do I had to borrow my roommates jacket tonight for work. It's 2 sizes to big for me and I feel like I look like a hobo wearing it.

@krzyriver if you can adjust the temperature yourself, no need to skip the hot tub! I use my hot tub in pregnancy all the time, but set it at 99. It's more like bath water temperature but the jets felt great in late pregnancy

Ooooh, I hate that!  Mine is similar.  I went to the store for two things - gum and lemon drops, both for nausea.  So what aisle were they completely rearranging the entire 20 minutes I was there?  Yep, the candy aisle.  Couldn't even get into the aisle.  It was silly, but I was fuming in my head.
  • @EJChapman123 Unfortunately I can't set the temperature on it. I guess I could bring a thermometer and test the water....

Can you contact them before you arrive and request that they change it for you? I'd be so bummed to miss out!
