Breakthrough Bleeding

Hi ladies,
I'm 8weeks and experienced a tiny bit of spotting today (brown and pink) with back ache and a heavy achy feeling in my stomach, I would have been due my period these few days (if hadn't been pregnant) and I've read about breakthrough bleeding that happens typically at weeks 4,8 and 12, is anyone familiar with this or experiencing the same?
I had a loss last year so naturally I'm a nervous wreck but I'm trying to remain positive, we had a scan on Tuesday and I saw my little blob heartbeat and all, it's just this new aching and spotting that is worrying me and wondered if anyone can relate?

Re: Breakthrough Bleeding

  • Hi @SonyaL9 , I can't relate to the back ache, but can totally relate with the spotting + heavy feeling.  There's been no achy feeling for me, but I've just been feeling heavy down there.  Like it's so full (of pee?  of uterus?  I dunno).  But it definitely feels "heavy" with what feels like tugging and stretching.  I spotted pink yday after sex the night before.

Forgive the ignorance, but are you talking about breakthrough bleeding coming off of birth control?

I think you should rest assured that you've seen your baby's heartbeat!

  • I spotted brown off and on for about a week. The nurse said that as everything is settling in, sometimes thing shift and the placenta can pull away and cause a slight bleed. It's very common. As long as it's not red or heavy, you don't need to worry.

Was your ultrasound transvaginal? Some women spot for a couple days afterwards because you're cervix is very sensitive.

I can't speak for the heavy feeling or backache. Sorry. I hope it stops soon and you can get some peace of mind.

  • Thanks for the replies, it's reassuring that I'm not the only one feeling this way!  @annabenanna I might have got the term wrong but I'd read it was when your body would usually be having a period but obviously it can't as your preg so you get a very small amount of spotting when you would have been due, some women get it every month at that time.
The heavy feeling is hard to describe its just like a dull tugging and ache I guess! Oh the joys hey, my nerves are through the roof daily but will be worth every minute of worry if we get a happy and healthy baby at the end :)
  • @krzyriver thanks for the message and definitely reassuring that it could be everything moving around and bedding in!
I didn't have a transvaginal scan they managed to see baby and heartbeat normally so I can't blame that, I do have spotting with bowel movements sometimes tho (nurse said normal) so maybe I've just a very sensitive cervix!
Thanks again, happy and healthy time to us all x
  • I had some brown spotting and after a few ultrasounds to verify a baby with a heart beat (they really wanted to rule out an ectopic) my dr told me that if I have any more brown spotting that it's fine and not to even call her.
