Success with SeaSick Bands?

Hi all, I have severe m/s with this pregnancy (as I did with DD)...I read in a post below someone talking about SeaSick bands to help...Did anyone find them to make a difference? Can you recommend a brand?  I would appreciate any input, I'm willing to try anything!  Thanks!

Re: Success with SeaSick Bands?

  • I wore them almost 24 hours a day for about two weeks.  Not sure that they ever helped.  But I tried it.  I have given up on them.

No clue what brand they were.  Hubby got them at Walmart for me.  Good luck!

  • I got the walgreens brand and they didn't really work for me.

  • Mine worked at first...but if you have severe m/s I don't think they will help.  there was one time I felt really sick and they didn't seem to work.  I wore them for 6 weeks anyway.  You may need zofran or some other medication if you are severe.

  • I never tried them during my first pregnancy, but DH and I tried them on a cruise...they didn't work for either of us! :(
  • I used the reliefband its a little more high tec than a typical seaband and a little more expensive. it actually looks like a watch and has 5 settings that send different levels of an impulse into the nerve of your hand. its a little annoying at first but doesn't hurt at all and it really helped with my m/s. when I started to feel nauseous I would turn up the intensity and it usually helped the m/s to lessen if not completely go away. Not sure exactly where to get one I borrowed my mom's who used it for sea sickness on a cruise. I know they have a website that should have all the info on it. good luck and I hope it goes away for you soon.
  • Sea Bands worked for me. I didn't have any severe m/s, only bad nausea for about a week or 2. I mainly wore them when I went to bed so they would be on when I woke up since that is when it was the worst. I got mine at Walgreens, I thought they were just 'SeaBands' brand, I have no idea...
  • i didnt know what they were and went to walgreens and asked for them, they look like arm work out bands but have an accupuncture point-- i think theyve helped enough for you to def try them-- the only thing i dont like is after wearing them for hours it starts tohurt my arms because they're too tight, and I have a job where im typing on the computer all day?
  • I couldn't live without my SeaBands from week 7 through about week 12.  I wore them 24/7 except to shower.  I know they don't work for everyone, but they helped me.  I wasn't completely normal, but the nausea was at least tolerable.
  • Thanks Ladies...I am already on Zofran (8mg instead of 4) and I still feel like it's doing NOTHING.  It's so horrible...I figure it can't hurt to try something, anything! Thanks for your input!
  • Hi Everyone! I'm new! This site has been so helpful!

I am using sea bands and it's been working. I still feel waves of nausea though. I am hoping it doesn't get worse.

  • I've been using the Psi brand bands that I got from Rite-aid and they are helping me.  The nausea is still there and some days are worse than others, but it's definitly not as bad as before I started wearing them.  They aren't very expensive, so they can't hurt to try.  Good luck!

  • They have kinda worked for me so far.  I still feel queasy, but at least I don't puke when I wear them.
  • I'm taking Zofran, which keeps me from throwing up, but I'm still queasy and the SeaBand helps with that. So do Preggie Pops, peppermint tea, or old-fashioned peppermint sticks. I think you just have to find your own combination- good luck!
  • I loved mine and it really helped.  I'm not sure of the brand.  My dh purchased it at our pharmacy.  Hope the m/s gets better soon.  Mine was gone by week 11.
  • I tried them a few weeks ago in first tri when I felt awful - they didnt help at all, in fact I felt really uncomfortable because the bands are very tight on the wrists (and I have really small wrists!)

  • I swore by my sea bands. I wore them almost everyday except when sleeping (i found them too constricting to sleep in.) I purchased The Original Sea Bands at Long's Drugs for $9.99. They are gray with the acupressure point and come in a nice plastic case. I would absolutely try them. I did not have 'severe' nausea but I was I was sick everyday, day in and day out. Give 'em a shot! What do you have to lose?! Party!!!
  • I had bad m/s starting at 7 weeks until just recently. I went to the my Dr and she told me to take 50 mg of Vitamin B6 3x a day and it will help with the nausea. I think it has helped alot, I still get nauseous right when I wake up but otherwise it has been much better. Worth a try to take them.
