pain when baby moves

Hi! I'm 29 weeks and am experiencing a very uncomfortable pain in the same spot when the baby moves. Not every time but occasionally. It really hurts. Almost feels like he's pulling on something inside of me. I know this is normal and is a good thing cause it means that he's strong but is anyone else experiencing this? Will it go away as he gets better and has less room to move around?

Re: pain when baby moves

  • Yes, this is normal. Sometimes the baby can bruise the inside of the uterus. I had something similar last pregnancy around the 35w mark and it did go away after a few days.

My baby can BRUISE ME!? Ahh!
    i did not know this!
  • I've started to notice more recently some of the movements from baby do hurt a little bit. Especially when right near the bladder or in the ribs. Everything I've read though is that it's normal... baby is running out of room and obviously getting bigger/stronger. I take it as a sign she's healthy. :)
  • Yes I've noticed this too! I'm almost 30 weeks and it's felt like she's ripping the placenta from the uterine wall. I love feeling her movements and seeing my stomach move, but lately it's been kind of painful. I don't remember this with my first. She's my mellow child, this one is going to keep me on my toes.
  • Yes. This happens to me too from time to time, especially right above the belly button.

If I am feeling any pain, I get down on all 4's and stick my rear in the air for a few minutes. This position will encourage the baby to move, and it helps work any gas out. Worth a shot to try!
Love this! This position is especially great for encouraging baby to get out of transverse position (which can be pretty painful by the third trimester).
  • Yes! That is what it feels like!

  • Related question that I have been too embarrassed to ask my doctor: How do babies move?  I mean: how do they get leverage to turn their bodies?  It feels like baby is reaching for the uterus, grabbing a hunk of it, an pulling himself around. But I can't imagine that's what's actually happening, but I also doubt that baby's much of a swimmer.

I would imagine they're able to move around much like how you would move around underwater in a pool. That's how I picture it at least.

  • I get most of the painful kicks at the top quadrants of my belly, although the bladder punches can be uncomfortable too.

Lightening crotch lately has been so sharp! Feels like he's head butting my cervix  :s
Oh my, yes! If I have been sitting for a while and then get up, I feel like LO is stomping on my cervix. It is the most intense feeling ever!

  • Yep! My girl has found a nerve that she likes to sit or hit and whenever she does it, I get pain from my lower pelvic region all down the top of my left thigh. It's fun.

I'd imagine that it probably depends on space and fluid amounts, but I know that when this baby changes positions, he seems to brace himself by pushing with his head and knees?feet? concurrently because I see and feel bump-outs on either side of my stomach when he turns. When he was much smaller, at our 12w u/s, I saw him push off with his feet like you would from the side of a swimming pool.
  • I've noticed pain by my pelvis but on the left side only and it was only after i reached 29 weeks.
  • DS1 was fully engaged from 25 weeks on, so I felt like he was going to fall out at any moment. Made walking SO much fun. This time baby girl prefers the breech position, and I swear she has one foot on my bladder and one on my sciatic nerve at all times. Plus she's been hitting/grabbing at my ribs, super fun. I just keep telling her she's going to have to flip at some point anyways, so why not just go ahead lol

This baby has a preference for my right hip, right by my hip bone. I have no idea what body part it is, but every so often something gets wedged right into that area. It hurts!

Same! It feels like he's hooking a foot into my hip or something.
  • I asked my doctor about the pain and he said its your muscles which have stretched. He said no biggie, take a Tylenol, it's only going to get worse from here. Booooo.
  • I've also had some painful movements, but it's very subtle. She likes to squeeze into my left side, so I always get this tingly sensation when she is really making herself stick out. It's weird.

What I am more concerned with is the times when it feels like baby is straight up like playing the drums or totally spasming out ... Like the repeated, in the same spot, quick kicks and jabs ... Those are normal for everyone right?

Those are crazy! It really does feel like a drum solo. Also, sometimes I feel like he is trying to kick my arm away from my belly if I'm pressing a little.

  • My LO has been doing some funky movements... I'd almost swear she's belly dancing and shimmying in there.  It would make me giggle and smile if she wasn't completely on the right side of my abdomen.  The right side of my body is where I've had the most problems with sciatica and back aches.

That lightning crotch thing... Right in the middle of the grocery store and had me nearly in tears with people staring at me.  I think I tried to climb out of my body.

This exactly what my lo has been doing! Spasm like movements feel crazy. Baby doesn't like being smooshed at all and will kick at my hand if I press on my belly too.
