Cancelled Transfer - OHSS risk

So I am going for my egg retrieval Friday morning but just found out my RE postponed my transfer because I have a high risk of OHSS (28 y. with 46 follies).  I'm pretty bummed.
Me: 28 - no known issues DH: 32 - MFI - low count and low morphology TTC since 3/2014 IUI #1 cycle started

Re: Cancelled Transfer - OHSS risk

  • I'm sorry to hear that! It's so hard to have things put on hold. :( But you definitely want your body in a peaceful place to accept that little embaby. Hugs and prayers for peace for you!

    ---Trigger warning---

  • So sorry about the potential OHSS!  I've heard that FETs have a higher success rate though, so hopefully the extra time will be worth it for you!  Hang in there!
    ***BFP & Child Warning***

    Me: 34, DH: 38 ~ TTC since 2014
    IUI #1-3 (Nov 2015, Feb 2016, May 2016) = BFNs
IVF ER (July 2016) = 7 PGS normal embryos
    FET #1 (Sept 2016) = BFP! DD born 5/30/17
    FET #2 (April 2019) = BFN
    FET #3 (July 2019) = BFP! DS born 3/27/20
  • That is fairly common. You don't really want to be pregnant and have OHSS at the same time. Plus, as PP said, FETs generally have a higher success rate. You also don't want to waste any of your embryos on a uterus that isn't receptive to getting pregnant.

  • I understand why... It still makes it hard!  I'm trying to be positive.  I guess I kind of new it would happen from the beginning.  I responded slowly at first so they pumped up my dosage and then it had its standard exponential growth!  It's just hard putting everything on hold even longer!

  • It's good that your RE is being proactive and cautious, but an unexpected change in the plan is sooooo disappointing. I'm sorry. I have ER this Friday too and will be doing a freeze-all so my body can rest and prepare for the FET. FX for no OHSS and that the delay turns out to be a good thing.
