Stretch Mark Cream/Oil Frequency

How often are you putting on cream or oil for stretch marks? I just received my order of Bio-Oil from Amazon and I want to stay on top of using it throughout my pregnancy, but I don't want to overdo it...

  • Every morning and evening.

  • I haven't even thought to start yet! What products are people using and like?
  • Yep it's all genetics. But your stomach will itch the more it grows so lotion is a good idea regardless. I have a bottle of baby oil in my shower and when I'm done I'll quickly squirt it all over my body and let it soak in for a min then blot myself dry. Then I'll apply my normal lotion when I get out.
I feel like it hydrates my skin more than lotion alone, but that's just me. Also I only do it at night so it doesn't ruin my clothes since it is an oil.
  • I'm a little nuts on this topic. I've purchased a lot over the last month to get a good product routine going.

Spoiled Mama Stretch Mark Cream - Very expensive but its my top pick. I use this in the morning

Honest Organic Belly Balm - Hated it. It felt like putting on jelly and didn't leave my stomach soft

Palmers Coco Butter - I like this. I use it in the afternoon when I get home from work

Bio Oil - I use this right before bed. It worked well for my sister

Body Shop Coco Butter - Don't like it. I tried it one day and it rubbed off on my pants and was greasy

Maderma - I have this one too. I've tried it once. Its the consistency of normal lotion and didn't leave me feeling super soft or anything great.

So to sum it up, Spoiled Mama, Bio Oil and Palmers Coco Butter and what I have in rotation right now. Im only 12 weeks and I'm sure Ill continue this all the way through. I know genetics play a huge part I just want to do what I can.

  • I've just been applying Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter at night. I also have Bio Oil, so I may start using that, but I am kind of thinking I may be better off saving that for after. If stretch marks really are genetic then I'm screwed and I'll try to use the bio oil after for damage control.

I like Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil. I will get stretch marks, thanks Mom!  It definitely helps with the dry itchy belly and I feel like it can't hurt to try to at least minimize the amount of stretch marks.

ETA: I use it after the shower and then right before bed

  • I'm with @PSUBecky23 . Both my pregnancies were during the dry cold MN winter and I rarely put any lotion on and didn't get any stretch marks. I'm either super lucky or it's genetics. In which case I'm still super lucky.

  • I never got stretch marks with either of my two pregnancies.  Seriously, it's genetics so don't waste your time or money.

That being said, I do use a body butter in the mornings after my shower. I used it on my arms and neck anyway, now I just put it on my stomach and boobs while I'm there.

I use it more because I have dry skin and itch like crazy than I do to prevent stretch marks.
  • I also never got stretch marks with my last two, but I still use straight up coconut oil (found in baking section of grocery store) mixed in with my daily lotion. I do that usually just once a day, twice a day if I'm not lazy.

  • I used bio-oil religiously throughout my first pregnancy. Three times a day, everyday from when I first started to "pop." Yeah, it didn't work. I still remember me laying on my bed and my DH coming in and was like "Oh, hun." and I was just like "STRETCH MARKS?!" They started under my belly where I couldn't see.

  • Agreed with PPs, its is all genetic.  Luckily not in my genes so I got very minimal with DS.  I did still use Palmers daily after a shower around 4months till the end b/c it helps with itching.  I also get super dry skin when Im preggo and I have been using Nivea shower lotion and its awesome!

  • I used organic coconut oil with my first and didn't get stretch marks on my tummy but have a few on my thighs.  I already started with the coconut oil again, after the shower, and when I start to show I'll add it at night time, too.
  • I use Palmer's cocoa butter and I just put it on once a day after I shower.
