Our Instant Cradle Cap Cure

Sorry if this has been posted or brought up in another thread but I'm so excited I had to share.

All three of my kids had cradle cap (known as cradle crap in our house) BAD.  I've tried every trick in the book at this point, including adding a Biotin supplement to my vitamins in a last ditch effort to solve the issue nutritionally with kid #3.  Little Man's crap actually got *worse*.  To the point where I was embarrassed about it because he looked so crusty and gross.

I came across an article recommending Dr.  Bronner's Magic Soaps and thought I'd try it.  Boom!  One use this afternoon and it's almost all gone.  Sadly I don't have a before picture but here's an after shot!  Just imagine the same head, only thick with yellowish scales and crust up past the hairline on his forehead.  No scrubbing, either! Just let it sit for one minute and then lightly rubbed with his wash cloth for less than ten seconds.

Had to pass this along in case others were struggling.

Re: Our Instant Cradle Cap Cure

  • Is there a certain scent you use?
  • Loading the player...
  • @Holdmomma I got the peppermint scent :)
  • I have heard good things about Dr Bronners from my Essential Oil moms. ( got into Essential Oils after reading about what's in Febreze)
  • DD had it horrible and nothing worked. If DS gets it, thank you for the information!

  • Haha we call it cradle crapped too
  • Ah, good to know. I have some at home and I will be trying this tonight. Thanks!

  • Mustela is supposed to work well for it too. DS had it show up for one day (before I used shampoo on him) and it was gone as soon as I used the mustela newborn shampoo at the next bath (they have a specific treatment for cradle cap too).
  • I've looked at pics of cradle cap online and I don't think my dd has it, but she definitely has dry skin on her scalp.  Maybe the beginning of cradle cap?  Last night I tried to tackle it with olive oil and did not have much success.  Maybe I'll try  the magic soap.
  • I'm going to try it also. We used baby oil during bath a few days ago and we either put too much or didn't take it off well with shampoo or his scalp is too sensitive or all of the above but it actually irritated his scalp is almost seemed burnt! Some hair fell out also. We felt horrible! I'm scared to try anything else but his head looks painful ly dry with a few still crusty spots. :(
  • My DS also has what I thought was cradle cap but now I think it's just dry skin...it got a lot better for a few weeks but now it's back and seems to be getting worse again
  • My DS had cradle cap and I was successful using baby oil. Put it on, let it set in for an hour or so, then brush it out with a soft hairbrush. You literally see it flake off. I did that every day for a week or so and it is gone.

  • @esscapelle thats exactly what we were hoping for but instead burnt his scalp and hair. It's even rough in some areas. So sad.
  • Oh no @angelicac06 so sorry to hear that!

  • Thanks for the info! I actually used coconut oil and then scrubbed with a soft bristled toothbrush and it came right off.
  • Think my son has it too, though it comes and goes and its red and bumpy. Wondering if its heat rash from being against us or over sweaty scalp? Any ideas????
  • Red and bumpy sounds more like eczema, @kellym35. I'd snap a picture of it when it's flaring to show your doc at his next check up.
  • Coconut oil worked for DS. I put it on 10 minutes before bath all over his head. In the bath I used his normal baby wash for his hair. I then combed his head and rinsed. It was all gone. I couldn't believe it. I wish I would have known to use coconut oil with my oldest DS when he was a baby.

  • Waxelene worked wonders! Took it off immediately
  • Mustela cleared up my babies craddle cap.
  • Soooooooo let me tell you about Dr Bronners, my parents exclusively use Dr Bronners and have for multiple decades because it's great for sensitive skin BUT ITS LIKE LIQUID ACID. If you get it in your eyes you WILL go temporarily blind. I spent my whole childhood having pure Castile lava drop into my eyes and burning them so that they remained a bright cherry red almost on a constant basis. When my DD was born my dad bought her baby Dr Bronners, but when he gave them to me I had nam like flashbacks and vowed to never use that vessel of hell on my child.....but she has terrible cradle cap. Looks like we will be using Dr Bronners in her bath tonight ....but so help me god I will throw myself in the figurative line of fire before I let that soap gets in her eyes. Heed my warnings if you let this product in your child's eye they will develop trust issues.
