Food aversions!!?

Hey ladies, not sure if this thread has been done already - I searched and couldn't find one. I had seen a few threads about cravings though somewhere. ANYWAY, I was eating an omelet yesterday as I often do, and in this particular omelet I had some broccoli. I usually love broccoli! But yesterday while eating it, it was just so gross and nasty tasting. I had to pick it out! Hopefully it was just a bad batch of them, but honestly I've never experienced such a thing where I've had "bad broccoli". It had got me thinking about food aversions and how I hadn't really experienced them during my pregnancy. Have you ladies had any food aversions; something you love but now can't stand? (or vice versa) SHARE! :)

Re: Food aversions!!?

  • Basically anything that I have vomited (sorry TMI but it's true) which covers a lot. I'm still nauseous so if I am craving something in particular I need to eat it in the moment, because I may feel too sick later on to actually eat it.

  • I've definitely had more averions than cravings! Coffee and leftover food especially! And sometimes other random things that are fine a day or two later or were fine a day or two before.... So weird ha-ha!
  • I have had like zero cravings, it has all been aversions. Especially meat. Disgusting. Even now I cannot have steak without feeling like it taste like cooked flesh. I'm almost yakking just thinking about it.
  • Meat.  It needs to just not be a thing right now.

  • Milk. Cannot drink it at all. Having a hard time with most dairy actually.
  • @givemepenguinss  UGH I knowwwwww. It's like it just dawned on me. So sad. So yucky.
  • Tomatoes. I used to love tomatoes in my salad but now literally everytime I try and eat a salad whether at home or at a restaurant I have to almost force myself to eat the tomatoes.
  • I'm having a hard time with my greens! I can usually eat peas okay but anything else comes right back up.... Maybe I have a picky eater on my hands already.
  • @givemepenguinss  UGH I knowwwwww. It's like it just dawned on me. So sad. So yucky.
Sorry, buddy. I struggle with this too, even when not pregnant. It's like a need a few glasses of wine to enjoy it.
  • That's so weird, steak and meat in general is one of my cravings! I just had a delicious steak last night for dinner. Come to think of it, when I had peas the other day I didn't care for them either... the kiddo doesn't like veggies.

  • I'm a huge veggie lover - mostly stick to a vegetarian diet. But I haven't done well with tomatoes or red onion this pregnancy, and would much rather have pizza, pasta, sandwiches or cereal most meals lol. I've stuck to my morning smoothies with spinach though and fruits I can't get enough of. Sweet things have definitely been my cravings more often than not. Lemonade too!
  • Dairy- milk, choc milk yogurt... id eat ice cream and it would come back up... all my favs... its getting a little better now.
  • My worst was to garlic, which is so sad. I will eat whole cloves of garlic, I love it so much, but the smell and taste of it has my dying now. Also veggies are on my no list. They are making their way back into my life, but for a while if it wasn't a carb or meat, I wouldn't eat it.
  • Mine changes all of the time. A few weeks ago, I saw my DD's pizza crust sitting on a plate, and gagged. I freaking love pizza crust! It can literally change day by day. The worst, is when something tastes different from how I know it usually tastes....and not because it has gone bad, but just because my taste buds seem to be off....

  • I haven't been able to eat legit pizza this entire pregnancy... I can eat a totinos pizza and be okay but, good pizza from an awesome pizza place makes me sick and it sucks! Every time I eat it, it sits in my stomach like a ton of bricks and then... Makes a second appearance:(
  • I struggle with bacon and a lot of veggies. Fruit are no problem so I eat a lot of them and make spinach salads with cucumber and peppers a lot. The rest of the time I am sneaking veggies in my meal like I'm five

I was throwing up dairy for a while. Milk and ice cream came right back up. I haven't had any in like 5, but yesterday I gave in to my shamrock shake craving. I even made sure I'd be home in time to puke it up. But I didn't throw up!  I don't know if it was a fluke but it made me very happy.
  • I have an aversion to my normal healthy balanced dinners. DH will make baked chicken, rice and roasted veggies (for example) and I want nothing to do with the protein. I could eat carbs for days though!

  • Ground beef and ground turkey. Also italian sausage makes me vomit.  :s

  • Since week 10 I have not been able to tolerate chicken. Even the smell of chicken cooking makes me gag. And this is really sad because I looooooved chicken before!

Also anything greasy- pizza (which I was never a really big fan of) just makes me sick thinking about it.

Gaaaahh I have italian sausage in the slow cooker right now!!! Lol.
Nothing comes to mind with aversions, but if someone mentions getting something for dinner I definitely have to think about it. It drives my husband nuts that one night I want one thing, then the next night I want nothing to do with it.
  • Peppermint. The taste, the smell, ick! Last pregnancy, it worked wonders for dealing with nausea, now it incites a riot in my stomach. Poor DH can't even eat his favorite ice cream around me!

  • I couldn't eat chicken for a good two months, even saying it made me gag. But the other ones come and go, I love thai food but a few months ago I ordered from my favorite place but it tasted weird, like it was soapy or something, but everyone said it was fine so I know it was just my stupid hormones stealing the joy of pineapple fried rice from me.
  • Chicken! Omg the texture absolutely freaks me out now!!! Can't do it haha
  • Hummus, which I normally love.

Last pregnancy I couldn't eat guacamole :disappointed: Luckily all went back to normal after the pregnancy, though.

  • I was having a hard time with green vegetables. I try to feed DD pretty healthy balanced meals and she has stopped eating a lot of vegetables she used to. I just started being able to tolerate some again and she's been doing better with them when she sees
    me eat them. (She's 1.5.)

  • Hot sauce and coffee.. My two old favourite things
  • I can't do eggs or chicken.
  • @MrsRo731 I too can't eat hummus, and it's one of my fav foods! I also haven't wanted to eat avocados this pregnancy. So sad, I hope it goes back to normal soon! Haha
  • I love sno cones from a local joint, so I was thrilled when I saw red velvet. Then I saw the pic. I can't eat a sno cone that looks like it has a yeast infection... Or gonorrhea.
  • For those of you who have also been having severe aversions... The thought of meat seriously makes me nauseous but I've been forcing myself to eat it anyways because I know it's good for me. Mind over matter? It hasn't actually made me sick. Are others doing this or am I just torturing myself? Of course, "off-limits" protein like runny eggs, medium rare steak, etc don't turn my stomach. Fish and shellfish are OK too. It's really pork, chicken, ground beef, beef stew, chicken sausage...all things I used to love :(  It's making it really difficult to enjoy cooking and having healthy balanced meals with DH when all I want is carbs and veggies.

  • bananas....the smell alone makes me throw up :( used to be one of my go-to breakfast items.
  • Hot dogs. It makes me sad at hockey games.
  • @sboston06 - yes, me too! Meat protein doesn't sit very well with me either, but it doesn't make me actually puke. I just get a bit green around the gills and have to force it down in tiny little pieces, chewing it loads. I often only manage a half portion as a result. Other protein seems fine though - like eggs and nuts. Weirdness.
  • This pregnancy I've had no problems but last pregnancy I had a terrible aversion to chicken in any form! We eat so much chicken at our house so it was tough to make dinners then!
  • Milk! Can't stand it, I think I threw it up too many times in my first tri.
