Well here we go again...my 4th trip since my LO was born. I hated traveling before and now? I HATE it even more. I get so anxious almost sick when I have to leave. I miss my baby so much. Any other moms in this position? I wish I could be a SAHM. For those who do stay home...did you leave a job? How do you and DH afford it? Did you cut back, sell house or what? I keep asking my husband to stay home but we can't afford it he says.
Re: Working, traveling mom
I was a hotel manager before having DD. Hubby and I talked about it before and during pregnancy about me being a SAHM. With the cost of childcare, it just made more sense for one of us to stay home. Financially, we have no outstanding debt except for house payment. My salary would have barely covered childcare. And, I was way passed burned out and wanted a change in career. So, me staying home worked for us.
Sure, there is less eating out, less clothes shopping, less going to the movies, etc. That would have happened anyway because of having the baby and not always being able to get a babysitter. It's worth it, but only because it made financial sense for us. If it didn't, I'd have gone back to work ASAP.
Is there maybe another position in your company that you wouldn't have to travel so much?
Good luck, mama! Stay strong!!! I know it's tough being away, but your doing what you need to do for your family.
We certainly aren't living as carefree as we once were, but it's definitely something that is doable. I was suggesting to a friend who is preggo and wants to stay home, but is unsure if they can afford it, to try living off just the one income. Worst case scenario they realize they can't do it, but they have her income which she was saving during the time to cover the excess. The best case scenario is they realize it's doable and have socked away a fair amount of money for emergencies!
Good luck! I hope you can make it work or find a job that has you staying close to home, or even find something part time!
TTGP July Siggy Challenge: Summer Fails
If you have paid your college loans off… you can probably do it! Just keep in mind that your lifestyle might be dramatically different. And often we SAHMs *want* to work.
However it works out, I'm sending lots of support & good vibes to you!
