Third time this has happened during my pregnancy - third distinct tooth.
I get a toothache like there's a cavity or I need a filling and it eventually gets bad enough that I'm crying (I am not the type to cry over pain usually but this is bad). I go to my dentist, he x-rays and investigates and finds nothing wrong with the tooth. On the last one I was in so much pain that he gave me a novocaine shot just so I'd get a short window of total relief and that seemed to bring the toothache on to the downswing until it eventually went away. Been trying to avoid calling emergency number on this one all weekend because I assume like the last two teeth, he will find nothing wrong and tell me I have to tough it out.
My dentist says this happens to a small percentage of pregnant women and they have no idea why. Has it happened to anyone else?
My dentist assures me that my mouth will go back to normal and my gums will stop bleeding incessantly once I'm done being pregnant.
Re: My teeth HURT!
i saw your post and thought I would mention my experience and maybe give you hope. I recently had something similar. An annoying pain in one tooth/gum area for a couple weeks. I was eating on the other side of mouth to avoid the annoyance. It got bad enough I thought it was best to go see the dentist and was told (after X-rays) there was no sign of anything wrong. No sign of cavity or holes in gums. That was two weeks ago. Now all of a sudden it's not bothering me anymore. Go figure. I'm just chalking it up to another lovely pregnancy symptom. I didnt have the same amount pain you're having but it was annoying when I would try to eat. So maybe your thing is different but I hoping for you it will just go away like mine randomly did. Good luck!
Ive had a few issues this pregnancy and last pregnancy with my teeth. This time I've had molar pain due to slightly inflamed gums which food got trapped in (specifically poppy seeds both times lol). Last time it was random pain in my front teeth, likely related to sinuses and my teeth already being sensitive from pregnancy hormones.
Definitely make an appointment for tomorrow but I wouldn't bother going to emergency.
He said that being pregnant really increases the amount of plaque below the gumline, and that although they are not sure this is what causes this problem, his best guess is that it's a below gumline irritation gone out of control - so we'll clean it all out once I'm not preggo and it should not build up like this again with my regular cleanings.
