Subchorionic Hemorrhage **TRIGGER**

Okay so...

Monday the 7th: HEAVY amount of bleeding. Went to my OB, he heard the hr via doppler and checked my cervix. He said everything looked good so he sent me home.

Wednesday the 8th: Clotting starts and still spotting. Call my OB and he says as long as its brown I'm fine.

Monday the 15th: Excruciating back pain and continue to spot.

Wednesday the 17th: sharp cramping. Call my OB but, no one is in the office. On call OB says I can either go to ER or wait til morning.  I had bought a home doppler so I found the HR and decided to take it easy and rest.

Saturday: I go to get my hair done. Sharp cramping is back and spotting goes from brown to dark red. I decide to go to the ER.

RESULTS?
Large Subchorionic Hemorrhage.

Im told because I'm still so early it's a 50/50 shot ill either continue to carry or miscarry :-(
Pelic rest
Bed rest
Call my OB Monday

I'm so lost and feel helpless. Baby looks perfect and grear on ultrasound but, this hemorrhage has me so lost.

:-(

Re: Subchorionic Hemorrhage **TRIGGER**

  • this is my third pregnancy, I had a loss once before and I have a healthy DD. I had sub chorionic hemmorages all three pregnancies (mc was just the baby stopped growing now correlation to SCH). At times I had three and another just one. It's fairly common and if you rest I bet you'll be ok. Just take it easy and listen to your body. There is nothing wrong with calling your OB or going to Hospital if you need a sanity check. It's scary, but common. Hang in there and drink a bunch of water! Hugs and positive sticky vibes your way!

  • Thank you.
Im just all kinds of emotional right now.

My hubby is being as supportive aa humanly possible but, he works nights and is on a form of chemo for ulcerative colitis so he's just as tired and fatigued all the time.
I have 3 boys 6, 2, 8 months... im trying so hard to stay put but its so hard.

Im just trying to relax as much as I can.
  • I've had a SCH with both pregnancies so far.  I didn't bleed as long as you, but I know how crazy it can make you.  I think after the first one I took maybe 30 pregnancy tests, maybe more, because I was so paranoid.  The first time the red blood was very minimal, but this pregnancy I was bleeding for a week and passed a clot the size of a matchbox car - I honestly thought that was it.  I was too early to use a doppler, but when I went to my RE they did the u/s and there was baby just fine.  SCH's are VERY common, so I'm shocked that the hospital told you it's a 50/50 shot - that seems extremely inaccurate given how common they are.  I knew someone on my old IF board who bled red blood for the first 20 weeks of her pregnancy and went on to have healthy twins.  Don't let it get you down - as long as baby looks fine, just try to ride it out as best you can.

I have one too. It's so tough. If it makes you feel any better, I know there are some stats that say 50/50 chance, but I think that's old data.  I believe newer research suggests SCH is less likely to cause miscarriage.  It may depend on sizing though. Just make sure to follow the activity restriction and pelvic rest, which is know must be so hard given your other children. Hang in there.

    Here is some newer research!

    https://www.obgynnews.com/home/article/miscarriage-risk-is-not-increased-with-subchorionic-hematoma/a0ee81fab6bef4e34d68d815eadc9cda.html

Here is another one from Threatened Miscarriage: Evaluation and Management: The prognostic value of a subchorionic haematoma in ultrasound has been disputed. Although a large separation has been associated with about a threefold increase of risk of miscarriage (19% v 71%) in women with bleeding,13 the presence or the size of haematoma did not affect miscarriage rate (10% v 11%) in another prospective series,14 and other studies reported similar findings.4,5,15

And then this recent (but small) study, which did find an association between SCH and miscarrige, still quotes the miscarrige chances as lower than 50% in the presence of SCH:

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this! I have no advice just hugs to you for having to deal with this, AND your husband not feeling well AND 3 little boys! I know when I was supposed to be resting earlier on in my pregnancy it was nearly impossible and I only have a 2 yr old! FX for you!

  • Im so sorry you're going through this.

I had two back to back losses and my next pregnancy also had a very large SCH.  It was so scary to bleed like that but baby ended up being just fine.  My OB gave me the same 50/50 odds but we just monitored it closely.

I'm sorry you are going through this, and I understand all the emotions that accompany it! Mine started New Year's Eve and I went the the ER. It was very large in comparison to baby, and they said it could go either way. I've been on rest since then, but mostly for other issues. I'm now 21weeks, and although it hasn't gotten much smaller, baby has gotten bigger in comparison, which is positive. Take it easy and lots of water!! Don't hesitate to call your OB if something doesn't feel right. Yours and babies health are most important, so trust your instincts! There are several groups on other boards and on Facebook that have lots of positive stories and encouragement. Hope you feel better soon!
  • I almost feel like my OB isnt taking me seriously... I called today and no one called me back except a nurse who I could barmy understand who asked a bunch of questions she should have already known.  ER only gave me til tuesday for bedrest.  I don't see my OB til Thursday but, I can almost garaintee he's not going to put me on restricted anything... I work in daycare!!!
