MN for Amelia

DH and I first agreed on Amelia shortly after finding out I was pregnant. We are stuck, however, on the middle name. He loves Amelia Jane because if she's not super girly, she could go by AJ. My only problem with Jane is that it's a family member on his side, but not one who is particularly close enough to name our baby after. My alternative is Amelia Jean, which still gives him the AJ nickname, but I'm not really sold on Jean. Last name starts with a B, if that matters for anything. What are your thoughts?

Re: MN for Amelia

  • Love Amelia. I voted for Amelia Jane but like both options. What about Amelia June? That will still
give you the nn AJ and I think it's adorable.

I'm partial to Jane because it's my moms name, but if it has no meaning to you I like June better than Jean :)

  • I really love all of your choices!  I wouldn't pigeonhole myself into the AJ nickname though on the off chance she isn't "super girly".  I feel like she can still be a badass/tomboy/whatever she wants to be with going by Amelia, Mia, Lia, Amy, etc.  So I would explore other middle name options since it seems like you're not set on the ones you have.  Good luck! :)

    Amelia Joy

  • I love the suggestions of Amelia June and Amelia Joy. How about Amelia Jeanette or Amelia Judith?

  • Amelia Jean is actually one of my FAVORITE fn mn combos!!! I love the name Amelia and my grandmas name is Jean. It always went well together to me!
  • We went with a J middle name so we could use PJ but haven't a single time! I regret not giving her a meaningful middle name so much I baptized her as a different middle name and plan to legally change it. So I agree. Don't pin that down as the reason to pick a name :) my mom also did this with my brother (RJ) never called him that and tried to warn me

  • I LOVE Amelia Jane, but I also really like the suggestion of Amelia Joy. I know some people don't like the "emotion" middle names, but Joy has always stood out to me as a good one.
  • Jane
but please no Aj...she's a girl, not a high school, I want to be cool, teenage boy

  • I think Amelia Jane works better than Amelia Jean, and I like the suggestions of Jade and Joy that turned up above. I also feel like Jane is a common enough name that you don't have to justify using it as a middle name without intending an homage to a relation, but that might just be me.

That said, if you don't like the name really well on its own, I wouldn't commit to a J middle name just to make the AJ thing a possibility. You/she might not ever end up using it.

  • While I like Jane MILES more than Jean, Amelia Jean is really catchy. Either works beautifully but Amelia Jean is snappy!
