Have u started solids?

Have you started solids? How old? What did you start with? We are 22 weeks old we haven't started but I'm wanting to.

Re: Have u started solids?

  • 23w, haven't started. We're waiting til 6 months and readiness for BLW (she still has tongue thrust and doesn't sit yet).

  • We started at 4 1/2 months he's a week shy of 6 months now. We started with Multigrain cereal from happy baby. We then bought my first fruits and veggies pack off amazon of earth's best. He started with apples then peas sweet potato pears and banana. I try to go one fruit then one veggie. Just once a day.

We are 25 weeks we began little tastes around 23. We began with avocados and bananas just little bits to taste and now we give him sweet peas, sweet potatoes and carrots primarily once or twice a day.

    Eta: hit wrong number keys
  • Nope - waiting until 6 months per doctors recommendation and the recommendations of the WHO and AAP. We are skipping processed foods (like cereal) and going straight for real fruits and veggies. His doctor said babies digestive systems aren't (usually) fully ready to digest those until 6 months. Baby is SUPER into food though - lol he almost forced a bite of a breakfast burrito this morning!!
  • We started around the 4 month mark with rice cereal, but moved quickly to oatmeal. I put a little cinnamon in it for her. We're doing fruit and cereal two times a day as well as vegetables and a little meat for lunch. (She's always been a hungry baby). The fruits now are apple, pear, and banana. Vegetables are sweet potato, carrot, squash, peas, and green beans. We just started meats with turkey.

  • Nope and not even close to. LO isn't quite 5 months yet and we are waiting until 6 to start. And that's if she cooperates. If she's not interested we will wait a week between each attempt.
  • We have since 4.5mo old and are just about at 6mo. Started with Oatmeal for iron (EBF) and then tried avocado, banana, pear and sweet potato mixed in -all that i had made myself. He is an awesome eater- no troubles, excited about it and growing like a weed!

Started around 4.5 months with her pediatrician's ok, went straight for fruits & veggies, started with carrots, then pears, then butternut squash, planning on sweet potatoes next... I would ask the dr at ur next appt. every baby's different... No need to rush, they don't really need the nutrition yet, it's all about the experience right now, the only reason I started so early was that she was lunging for everything edible anywhere near her & I started feeling mean not letting her have any, lol
  • I wanted to wait until 6 months but we started at 19 weeks with sweet potato. My LO was eating too much formula a day and the doctor suggested we introduce foods. He's 24 weeks now and he's loves it
  • 22 weeks and haven't started. He can sit by himself for a minute before toppling but still doesn't show any signs of reaching for food. If he does that I might start before 6 months but I doubt it.
  • LO is 22 weeks and we are seriously considering it. We even bought the cereal but haven't given it to her. I don't know what my hesitation is. She stares down everyone with food and reaches for everything. She can sit up for short periods of time. Maybe in another week.:..
  • I was going to wait until 6 months but I think we may be headed there very soon (21 weeks). She's fallen behind on weight gain and eating all. the. time. Like every 1.5-3 hours all day and night. My boobs feel like they're gonna fall off!

Earlier I was eating a carrot and talking to DH while holding LO...and she went right for it! It was so funny, we had to take a picture. To say she is interested in food is an understatement...
  • We haven't started yet. My son is 22 weeks and he drinks 5 6oz bottles a day. Our pedi said that we should wait to start solids until 6mo but I might start at least the oatmeal or rice cereal soon. I feel like it will help him sleep better at night. My son looooves to eat & I think he'd be so excited to have something that fills him up more.
  • We started (slowly) right around 4 months with doctors ok. He is 22wks now, EBF and we do cereal + a fruit or vegetable once per day and he loves it!

We started at 4.5 months with our pediatrician and the hospital pediatric dietician's go ahead  they told us to skip cereals and start right with veggies and meat, then fruit after (fruit tastes the best and it's hard to get them liking veggies and meat after the sweetness of fruit apparently). We just started with peas and will give them every couple of days to get her used to the texture and tastes and to make sure she isn't allergic but it's only a few spoonfuls each time. I bought organic jars and once I find she likes a certain one I will make a batch homemade  she actually grabbed the spoon from my hand and was licking the peas right off of it- it was pretty cute so I had to attach some pictures

ETA: it hasn't effected how much she breastfeeds or sleeps

  • 22 weeks. Started 2 weeks ago. She started getting fussy like she needed more than just milk so we tried green beans first...skipped cereal (I feel that's more for helping baby gain weight..?and my child was the size of a 6 month old at her 4 month visit). The first few times, she didn't know what to think, but now she sticks her tongue out and opens her mouth for more after every bite !! We do mostly veggies: green beans, carrots, sweet potato, peas. She eats solids once a day, right now. We are keeping the same amount of milk, of course.
  • Yep. My LO is 6 months and we started with bananas. He's had lots of fruits and veggies since-- he loves his "dinner" time. He's also taking much longer naps and slept through the night 4 nights in a row since we started!
  • We got the go ahead from our pedi at 4 months but waited until 5 months to start. I was planning on waiting until 6 months but he was very interested in food and sitting up on his own. We started with rice cereal and then Did butternut squash and then bananas. We introduce something, give him it for a few days and then take a few days off. Still ebf. I think we will try sweet potatoes next week.
